My wife and I will be staying in the state park in the next couple of weeks. Any advice on places to fish from the bank? Looking to catch fish so willing to fish for anything. Also, any recommendation on places to eat? Plan to mostly cook at the RV but if there is something really good nearby (within 30-45 minutes) would drive for a good meal.

They been catching more at the south shore boat ramp which is easier to load and unload gear.....but there will be more ppl and if you are staying at callaham you will have to drive there.

places to eat - DQ in Three Rivers is one of the better DQs I've been to. I also like the Mexican food place in Tilden. Normally would direct you to wheelers gas station in Tilden for a burger but they are closed now. Choke Canyon BBQ in Whitsett aint too bad and is only about a 20-30 minute drive from the state park.

To add on to food recs, Rick Sowell makes some of the best barbecue I've tasted. If Sowell's is still open, pull up.

I know I will get roasted for this, but here goes:

We bait our trotlines with chunks of wild hog meat. We have as much success with that as we do with live perch. Just dice into 1 to 1-1/4" cubes and put it on a hook.

You won't catch as many yellow cats, but you probably won't catch many from the bank anyway.

Max's in Tilden. Used to be very good at least but it's been quite some time that I've been there.

I didn't realize Choke Canyon had enough water in it to fish!

Boat racing is like beautiful women……..expensive, high maintenance, but well worth the fun!

I know it is very low for sure. I will let you know here in a few weeks how low it is and how functional it is.

Yeah, there's plenty of bank at Choke right now. Come on, Rain!

Rain is good for the lake but will be bad for fishing.

A low lake or tank will bring all the fish that used to inhabit a big lake and squeeze them into a small one.

If I were betting - fishing will be good if you can get access to them.

I would think the alligators per X at choke canyon would be such that I wouldn't want to fish from the bank. Max's in Tilden is still good - go hungry. Not open on Sunday and Monday I don't think.

Years ago we talked to the park ranger at the check in station about the "beware of alligators" sign and if anyone had been attacked. At that time he said no one had been injured but allot of dogs have gone missing.
