Leave College Station with my boat Friday morning. Fish fri night, sat, sun, mon, tues, if the weather cooperates and the coolers arent full. Share cost of gas, lodging, ice, bait. $800-$1000 range for everything. Currently have me and one buddy committed. Room for 1-2 more. Need to find a 3rd person that can commit to the whole time.

Specifically going after tuna in the 150lbs+ size. Do not need gear but do need some offshore experience. cwscott at tamu d0t edu

Not available, although it sounds like fun, but what kinda boat are you dragging from CS all the way to venice, just curious? Good luck and go get them big girls.

edit to add,, and anyone who can make it, you are paying pennies on the dollar for venice offshore tuna, especially if it ends up being in the 1k range per.

26 glacier bay. Routinely trailer to the Texas coast. I try to stay on top of trailer maintenance. Knock on wood, no issues to date.

Yeah, the guides are going to run you about $800 per person for 8 hours of fishing. Then add on lodging and gas to get there. While I do know where I'm going and what Im doing, my success rate isnt going to be like theirs. But we don't have to be back to the dock at 4pm either.

Wish I was going down to Texas. Would like to go with you. Wife and I had a 26 Regulator and use to make that trip from SA to Venice once a year. Good times.
Good luck and for goodness sakes be careful my friend.
We will be expecting some pics.

Sounds like a fun trip. Did 70-80 miles out in a 21 Robalo, this should be easy run. Edit to add I like the ride of a cat.

Yea. You can go out in a Jon boat if it's flat calm.

Hey I sent you my email via PM about your boat.

Most don't understand a true 10' Gulf slop, i'd avoid it in a 65' Viking. Now a true ground swell out in the Pacific or even S. Atlantic, different story. But the gulf just gets really nasty, really quickly, once over 4-5' imo. But I've seen some hard core people do some crazy things out there, and fortunately live to tell the tale. The good news is the newer boats, especially some of the cats, can handle some crazy stuff in relative comfort.

Big rollers in Cabo are much different than the Guif for sure

It all has to do with the "frequency" of the waves or distances between tops of swells. Gulf of America, East Coast around the Carolinas, Southern Pacific, Atlantic, etc. etc. are all different tidal frequencies. Have been around offshore racing for years and it takes a developed skill set to learn to race in each of those conditions as each location has its own tidal nuances.

100%

10 feet seas/swells (huge trough time) in San Fransisco don't feel like anything compared to 3-4s (short trough time) in the gulf.

We regularly go out 50 miles from Port Mansfield in 1-2's in a 24' shallow sport. If we miss the window, coming home in 3-4's sucks big donkey dick. But that usually means we have a box full of tuna.
