In most critter fights, I bet on the 'coon. Not his one.
Being in TexAgs jail changes a man……..no, not really

We caught a large coon a few years ago with a steel leg trap set for nutria/ otter/ beaver. Just caught the tip of his foot so I wanted to release him. We eventually did but I would not try it again. We pinned him down eventually with shovels and a steel bar but he was wicked fighting with his teeth and claws and was very agile. Lucky none of us were bitten or clawed.
I seriously doubt if a big cat would want to fight or try to eat a coon.

I would definitely try to find something easier to kill and eat than that coon. We have a big boar that bulldozes them. Everything else is scared of them.

A raccoon can kill a dog if it gets it near water and the dog goes after the coon… we had several of my uncles dogs killed in a tank / pond by raccoons… kind of hard to believe but those little SOBs are mean as hell

We had one get into our office one time at a company I used to work for. He wedged himself in between the wall and cubicle wall and was stuck. I somehow got the genius idea to lasso him with some mule tape, a broom handle, and some welding gloves. The plan went well until I pulled him out of the wall and the lasso/leash fell off the broom and he had nothing stopping him from charging me. Let's just say I looked like a ballerina spinning around as I made my way to the door outside (which was fortunately very close) so he couldn't bite me. That sucker was not happy at all about having a leash on and would have destroyed me if he had the chance.

Wife and I raised three that were orphaned when one of my dad's deputies shot the moma in a lady's attic.
Their eyes were still closed when we got them. Bottle raised them and kept them for about 8 months. Turned them loose at our ranch.
From time to time they would come back to the house for treats. Then they quit.
They were a blast to raise. Never tried to bite and never really mean. Just curious and mischievous little guys.
When cornered or trapped they will fight for their lives like any other wild animal…..or human.

Boat racing is like a beautiful woman.......expensive, high maintenance, but well worth the fun!

My dad and grandpa used to be avid coon hunters on our homestead on the Guadalupe. Had blue tick hounds. Always heard that as a tale but never experienced it.

Was one of your uncles named Versie or perhaps Clovis? Just curious.

Unfortunately, most humans born in the last 30 years would just curl up into a little ball and whimper

We used to lease a facility in west Houston next to the reservoir. Had bay doors in the back that we kept open when operating.

I came in early one morning, and walked into a small bathroom in the warehouse. Maybe 3'x5'. I opened the door, started to walk in, reached to the right to flip on the light, noticed a raccoon sitting on the floor right next to my foot, jumped across the restroom, missed the light switch, and then the door closed.

I was standing there in the dark, raccoon between me and the door. Damn thing was just hissing at me. It occurred to me that it could see me, but I couldn't see it.

Only option: I reached around and found the trash can, threw it in the direction of the hissing, and made a break for it. No idea how I got out of there unscathed.

I laughed way too hard at this.

The FB Texas Cats forums are full of people that have done seent Black Panters in East Texas, Ocelots in Weatherford & a Jagurundi in Fredericksburg. I'm not making that up.

Great post.

Saw a lot of Black Panthers out by Normangee! Down in the Navasota River bottom where the trash pandas roam & the Russian boars root up the place. May even see a Mexican Ocelot on a good night, it's amazing what these new thermal scopes pick up!
