I have a 6120M that is needing a set of tires. Current tires are Continental Tractor 70 R1W 420/70R24 fronts and 480/70R38 Rears. Continental is leaving the Ag tire market so they can't find the fronts anywhere.

Not many options in these sizes. Alliance AgriStar 2 supposedly makes some, but last set of Alliance we had went flat just looking at a mesquite. So I'm more than hesitant to go that route unless they really are better now.

Wanting something of similar quality.

What would you do? If you switched sizes what would you go with? Tractor does plowing for sudan and hay work--no row crop.

Also any opinions on Beet Juice vs water/antifreeze for extra weight vs just Tire Life in them?

Firestone used to be the go to for ag tires and they are priced as such. I have heard though that their quality has gone downhill the last few years and it's not worth paying the premium price for them. I have heard good things about BKT tires and surprisingly Goodyear/Titan.

As far as weight goes, my advice would be to never, ever use liquid ballast. It always causes problems down the road, along with reducing the dampening ability of the tire. If you need rear weight, add cast wheel weights or buy a ballast box to put on the 3 point hitch if you are not using it.

Check with Hlavinka Equipment Co in East Bernard. They had a large selection of new tires recently when I was there. Shoppas El Campo is another option which is on the edge of mesquite country.
Agree with above- get the cast iron wheel weight package which will bolt onto the inside of the rear wheels. Makes a tractor much more stable for heavy loader work, pulling, and easier to deal with a flat or air leak someday.

I recommend BKT. 2 / 3s the cost of the tradition brands and we've been having great luck with them for a decade on 300 HP MFWD Tractors.

Hlavinka's and Shoppa's are high as a kite on all their products. Doubt tires would be much different but we do our tire business through Coops / individual owned businesses so I really can't say on their tire prices. Where are you located?

Central Texas. Between Austin and SA.

Petlas and Alliance are the only brands I've found in that size.

Someone wanted to put me into 14.9R24 fronts instead.

No Firestones available in anything close according to a local tire dealer, or anything else according to southern Tire Mart.

I'll have to look outside my area.

You aren't limited to that size tire, you just want to make sure the ratio of size from front to back is roughly the same (assuming it's 4wd).

Even the same size tires from different manufacturers are usually different sizes so don't stick just to whatever size you have now.

We have the 420/70R24's on a John Deere 6130R in BKTs. However we run 520/70R38 BKts on the back.

BKT shows both sizes you need on their Website:

They cross searched any close sizes.

Have you thought about foam filling them for extra weight and preventing flats? Might make it a bit rougher ride.

I have no experience with that. I've heard you havw to do it when new or they want do it, but never have had it done.
