Anyone ever heard of or used Pure Water Appliance? Or have another suggestion for a whole house filter on a well?

We've started a kitchen remodel this week and I've been researching RO systems (we have an old Whirlpool one today). They all warn about connecting to a well system; which got me thinking about improving our well water filtration. We have a softener now, but considering whether I should replace with something more robust. This is something I should have probably done years ago...

Appreciate any insights or suggestions any of y'all might have. Live in central Texas...

Well, you kinda need to know what you have in the water before you can figure out what you need to remove it. My water is pumped into and out of a semi open cistern, so I need to filter out possible biologicals, maybe pollen, dead geckos, dust, sticks, who knows…so I have a backwashing sediment filter, a softener, and a hefty UV system. So you need to decide what you want to get rid of.. Does your water taste bad? Does it has crawlies in it? Have you had it tested to see if any of it is necessary? I think that's where I'd start.

Good call - I have not had my water tested in a long time. I will do that. But, generally, the water is really hard and just doesn't taste very good. We currently have two black poly 2500 gallon storage tanks.

Your water is probably fine and most likely a good softener and a backwashing carbon system would probably solve your problem. When I say carbon system, I mean like a tank that looks like a water softener but filled with activated carbon that backwashes itself. It wont be cheap between the softener and filter but don't skimp here. I only suggest testing since you are already going full bore. Now would be the time to find out if there is something weird in it that needs to be removed. I wouldn't expect anything bizarre.

A duo of a 50 micron, followed by a 5 micron, particulate filters, to feed the RO system (and/or the house), may be all that's needed.
And the mentioned water analysis: Agrilife testing lab

Live in the burbs, but we installed a water-purification/softner system a few years back and we'll never go without again. Just top off the bin with salt every month or so and that's it.

I second this. We installed one for our entire house over a year ago and the difference has been drastic. We're on well water in the county and my wife feels like her hair is finally clean. All appliances and shower heads now run with increased pressure (no mineral buildup) and our clothes are even cleaner. Night and day difference all around. Highly recommend.

I have an Aquasana Rhino whole house filter plus a water softener. No complaints about it at all.

I have the same one. I'd buy it again.

Second on the backwashing carbon filter. I installed a water softener, resin, whole house filter, and a sediment filter several years ago on my well. I have terrible sulfur water. Called Pure Water Products in Denton and they walked me through the entire process, advised me on what I needed (and more importantly, what I didn't need), and sold & shipped everything in just a few days. They beat everyone else's price too.
