Making a very difficult post here, as I've never had to do this before. We have come to very difficult conclusion that we can no longer keep our newest GSD addition to the family, and I want to be very upfront with why.

She is extremely aggressive toward anyone outside my immediate family. We have spent a lot of hours and a lot of money on professional training, and there was some improvement made, but not enough to make us feel comfortable with keeping her. She has never once shown any aggression toward me, my wife or kids. In fact she is extremely loving and sweet with us, but anyone outside of that she will growl or snap at. She also bit the professional trainer once enough to draw blood. We don't even feel comfortable letting my kids have friends over to our house right now because she is so unpredictable, and we cannot have a situation where she bites a kid.

The final straw was recently she got into a spat with our smaller dog (~15lb Havanese) and it was bad enough to draw blood. I didn't have to take the smaller dog to the vet or anything, but I did have to super glue a small cut on her closed. Luckily I happened to be standing right there, and was able to break it up quickly, but we don't want to worry about what will happen next time, or what will happen if we are gone.

This is obviously a not fun situation and a very difficult decision to come to, but my wife and I are at the point we either want to rehome her, or we will need to put her down. I'm not really looking for advice here, or have you tried fill in the blank. Believe me, we have tried it all.

What I'm looking for: our house is not the right situation for her, but if there is a situation where she can thrive, I obviously want to give her that chance rather than put her down. If you know of a place where she would be isolated and not around a lot of strangers, or maybe a trainer that wants a project to work on, etc, we would like to give her a chance there.

Details about her: Her name is Lexxie, just under 60lbs. 1 year old, birth date is 5/5/25. Pure bred, AKC registered. Unfortunately, she is not spayed. When we got her as a puppy we were planning to breed her with my male GSD, but obviously that plan has changed as well, and we just haven't had time to get her spayed yet. If that is a deal breaker, we can work with a potential new owner on that.

Located in Katy, but obviously willing to drive a bit for the right situation.

Contact: reply here, email me at ekuhrt at gmail dot com, or call/text me at (713) eight two five 58 nine six.

NOTE: I'm really hesitant to make any post like this on Facebook groups, because I don't trust strangers to not put her in a bad situation (bait dog, etc) but I trust the TexAgs community so I at least wanted to give this a try.

Rehoming isn't the right move.

My dad trained and handled K-9's in law enforcement and specialized with GSD's and later Malinois. My wife and I have raised GSD's and owned them for around 40 years and during that time have come across a couple that have behaved as yours. She is a beautiful dog. GSD's can be very protective of their families. Some of the best baby-sitter dogs I've ever been around have been GSD's. Before giving up on her I would try to take her to a specific type of trainer for behavior like this. Lots of "dog trainers" will tell you they can "fix" her but few really have the experience and knowledge.....and basically just waste your money. Typically it takes a trainer that works with law enforcement or military training and has worked with dogs like this.
There was a fellow outside of Austin that we sent a couple of dogs to that were able to make them great dogs. There is also a lady we know named Nancy Bidwell in East Texas that works strictly with LE and Military dog behavioral training. I will try and get some contacts for you.

We have 6 dogs inside. 30lbs to 80lbs and there are fights and blood is drawn. I don't even know how many times we've been bitten breaking up fights. We simply closeup animals that are problematic when we ave company over and manage situations that cause fights to minimize those. I have had instances in the past with other dogs that I've explained to people how to behave around them and they don't heed a do ice and get bit. So, I just close them up because I don't want to risk it.

You'll have the manage the situation. If that's not on the table then revoking is going to be tough u less you find the right person. I ant take any more dogs but a dog like that wouldn't cause me much concern. We're around animals all day so bites, kicks, bruises, etc are just part of the deal.

Gunny has the best idea if you want to make true efforts to correct the behavior. If you don't, and you don't find someone who is, that dog will likely end up in a shelter and put down.

Don't explain any of this crap on Facebook. Use it to find organizations and rescues and speak to them directly. We foster a ton of dogs and won't rehome animals to the wrong people. If my wife doesn't get a warm fuzzy feeling from a potential adopter, they aren't getting the dog.

She should be spayed.

A spay might moderate hormone levels some and moderate some behavior. Your situation is going to require an isolated home where interaction is very limited or extensive behavioral modification training and conditioning.

Another great training option is Carlisle K9 in Conroe. Brad will tell you the truth about what can and cannot be accomplished and he is an amazing trainer.

Having said that, if the dog has had proper training and is still aggressive toward people, I agree rehoming is not the answer.

This, I know it sucks but putting her down is not inhumane.

Proper training is the key word. Lots of trainers think they know what they are doing because they do basic "obedience" training. Herding dogs, by nature, oftentimes need specialized training that takes experienced people for that problem.

Wow. I would never blame someone who got bit by a dog unless they were abusing the dog. "I warned you that dog bites" is wild. We shouldn't have to walk on egg shells around animals. And getting bitten is not a normal part of owning dogs.

Disagree. Given the right circumstances any dog can bite. Just like there is no such thing as a "bombproof" horse. I grew up around German Shepherds and Malinois and raised and owned them for 40 years. Proper training and discipline work is the key.
But having common sense around them or any dog is the also paramount. I've been bitten by lap dogs and chihuahuas much more than other breeds by far.

I don't have patience for those who act like fools around animals. Same advice goes for all of our folks on teh ranch. "Don't walk behind this horse", "Don't feed this animal with your hands", "don't turn your back on the bull".

If you can't follow the advice and don't have the good sense God gave a goose, then good luck to you. Many of us learned lessons the hard way as children, much of the world was shielded from such lessons and it shows. Remember, there is a small section of the population that are the reason auto fan belts say "Stop engine before installing."

Deleted my post after seeing a picture of the dog. I thought it was a GSP before I saw the picture.

If she's not good with strangers, how are you going to introduce her to...a stranger (including a trainer)?

I'm not really a dog guy, so maybe the answer is simple and I'm just ignorant -- hence the question and not a comment. And perhaps there is someone out there that knows exactly what to do in this situation.

Best of luck.

Good news. I reached out to the trainer we used for Lexxie and he knew of a rescue that specializes in cases like hers and would take her. So she is going there tomorrow. Very happy we were able to find somewhere for her.
