Any advice on pet insurance? Any guidance on a better company to go with?

My wife has policies on ours. I think nationwide, but I'll have to check.

If you do decide to get it, get your dog/cat on it as early as possible so you get the lowest premium and the insurance company can't claim anything as pre existing. I have my dogs insurance through Lemonade since my auto carrier doesn't serve that market anymore. Plan I chose is 80% reimbursement with a 20k limit and somewhat high deductible, costs me about $300 a year. Super easy to setup the policy.

I'm on the fence about if its worth the money though, and am considering dropping it. I only have it for catastrophic events, and honestly the value proposition isn't really there if the cost were any higher. The peace of mind is nice, but I think if they drastically raise my rates from where I'm at now, I'll drop it and self insure. Paying $150+/month (Like a lot of people on Reddit are doing when I was researching this myself) makes absolutely no sense unless your pet costs you hundreds per month in care.

Hopefully one of the resident vets on here can chime in with their opinions

I paid some company called Trupanion or something premiums for a couple of years when we got our pup. I had their plan with the high deductible - maybe $2,000. I guess my thought at the time was that gives me lower premium and I'd only ever have to use the plan if the dog required some really expensive surgeries or something. ... but after a few years of a really healthy dog, i dropped the pet insurance. I think i have enough money that we'll just pay for whatever expensive surgeries or treatments our dog needs if he needs any in the next couple of years, and if he gets cancer or something when he's older, really expensive treatment vs letting him go will be a family decision. Maybe if I were younger and didn't have much tucked away I'd rethink paying those premiums for pet insurance. anyway, Trupanion was easy. never had to use them for a claim, but they sure knew how to set up auto-pay on my credit card.

We have Pets Best Insurance. Prior to getting our lab puppy from AgVet, we asked our local Vet what Pet Insurance she'd recommend...she immediately mentioned Pets Best.

I too would recommend getting the policy when they are young. Candidly, we got it because this puppy is now 82 pounds, and he loves to run. A friend of ours, who is a retired vet, saw him run recently and she asked me, "Do you have Pet Insurance?" I told her we did and then asked why. She replied, "he'll blow out his ACL someday."

Hoping that's not the case.

Worth it. Looking at it as well. Cat cost $4500 for a recent emergency vet visit.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

We enrolled our dog in Trupanion when we adopted him from the shelter at 3 months of age. Our policy is a $1,000 lifetime deductible for each "illness/issue." After that, your payment is 10% of the bill.

Our mixed breed mutt (so much for hybrid vigor) has allergies (Apoquel is $245/month due to his size), hypothyroidism, and last year had TPLO surgery ($$$$$). The monthly insurance premium runs $112 per month but that is because he is a big dog (130#). I have already met my deductible for his allergies so that is now only costing me about $25 a month for his medication (10% of the cost of the Apoquel). TPLO surgery costs were covered at 90% once I was had paid $1,000 for his surgery. Odds are 50/50 he will need surgery on his other knee down the road so I'm keeping the insurance.

For my previous dogs, I just kept money aside for expenses and you can definitely go that route if you are disciplined.

We have Fetch. Our one year old German Shepherd managed to break one of his canines to the pulp. $4500 later decided to get pet insurance for next time since he has 3 more canines to break. Not to mention he loves to eat random crap so lots of potentially expensive vet visits.

Fetch was the only policy I found that had unlimited dental coverage even for root canals.

No. His father is HRCH Drake's Pablo Escobar MH17 and he is out of Wisconsin. His mother is Penny, who Kim owns and is now 'retired.'
