Looking for recommendations for a two man ~3 day Axis hunt late Sept or early Oct. I realize it's probably late in the game to be asking and not the ideal time of year to hunt them.

I have gone through previous threads and Flying A seemed like a good fit due to nice accommodations and box blind hunting. But they are all full for 2026.

It'll be for my 70+yoa uncle and Me. Without going into great detail, spot and stalk hunts aren't really an option due to some limiting factors in my uncle's health. Unfortunately things in life happen, and what the mind wants to do isn't what the body allows.

Thanks in advance.

Aggie owned. Not sure what their hunting style entails for axis hunts, though.

I highly recommend El Sapo if he has an opening, being later in the year you may get lucky on that. Be up front with him on mobility and he may be able to help ya out!

For a really easy hunt I recommend Blanco exotics. Severne is a good ole ag in his early 70s that manages the ranch. It's only a 425 acre high fence, but he has good axis, he's a great guy, and the hunting is pretty easy. He has good blackbuck too and fantastic whitetail. I used him a few years ago and his pricing was excellent compared to other ranches.

There is no bad time of year to hunt Axis. The females vary year around of when they go into estrus and the bucks are in all stages of antler growth and rut by their birthday. I have guys hunt them on our ranch year around with equal success.

Good luck on your hunt sir!
An Axis is a total win win.....Beautiful hide, beautiful antlers, and great meat!

If you're close to SETX then look up Cypress Creek Ranch in Warren (Tyler County). I've heard they offer pretty reasonably priced hunts for axis, fallow and red stag. Not sure if they have a website but they are on Facebook..Phone number on their FB page is 409-429-8903.

I just built a rifle for a lefty California firefighter who is doing the same. I didn't realize hunting Maui was a thing. Sadly, California is so messed up that he can't have a suppressor for his rifle. Bummer.

Anyway good luck and post your pics!

Axis were introduced to Hawaii in 1860 by the emperor of china as a gift to king kamehameha , and given the perfect climate and no predators they are overpopulated on several of the Hawaiian islands. There are some cool videos on YouTube about hunting and culling operations to keep populations under control.

There are actually two species of Axis:
Indian Axis and a sub species Ceylonese Axis.
The Ceylonese typically are shorter and more stocky with a little more lighter yellowish coat with somewhat smaller spots.
The two have somewhat interbred but you can sometimes see the two different lasting characteristics in axis herds in Texas.
Axis are just cool deer. The females very rarely throw twins ( Only two instances ever reported, one in a zoo). They are also the only cervidae where females will adopt and nurse strange or orphaned fawns on a regular basis.
It takes doe axis 6 years to obtain full body size. Bucks at 5-6 years.
