Recently got rid of directv.

Bought an indoor antenna and get all the channels listed here: https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=print_market&mktid=118

My question is: if I bought an antenna for the attic or to put where directv had their dish on the roof....what extra channels could I realistically get out here in south cs?

Thank you.

What indoor antenna do you have? I live on the south side of CS and cannot get stable NBC and ABC signals using an indoor antenna, but my living room window faces south. TIA

Hope this helps

Depends on trees and how high you mount the external antenna

I ab e experience with this one in Bryan but not sure about what it will pick up in south CS

What additional channels are you getting versus the link I posted that shows all the channels I get with the indoor one I am using......would love to see what additional channels ppl are getting To make a decision on getting the attic/outdoor one or not.

Thank you.

We're up in N. Bryan and have a roof-mounted amplified antenna and get all the channels listed in the OP. We get a handful of others as well, but I couldn't tell you anything about any of them because I never have the desire to watch them. I think you listed all those I'd be hopeful to get.

I'm getting all of those you listed with an indoor antenna (behind the TV) in King Oaks. Oddly enough, I have an outdoor TV on the back porch and I had to install an indoor antenna at the gutter to get NBC and ABC. Those seem like the toughest ones to get.

Go to https://www.tvfool.com/ and perform a location assessment. It will tell you how far off the ground to mount the antenna at your house to receive which signal, as well as where to aim it to best pick up all of the signals. I mounted a 4 element bowtie in my attic several years ago based on this data and it was spot on. Several friends have followed with similar results.

Honestly, that's pretty much everything. I would be surprised if your ABC signal is consistent with an indoor antenna, but they might have improved their signal over the years.

I have a large, directional antenna pointed roughly at Temple and I can occasionally get Dallas area broadcasts. It's all the same stuff with the exception of a couple of different subchannels (the most interesting one being a Vietnamese language channel).

Thanks for the replies. Seems I'm good with the one I got....Unless this one can really get 200+ mile range!?

I was looking on amazon and this is supposedly the best seller for Indoor....says 200+ range???? No way it could get close to that range??

In South College Station I get 13 channels, but 2 are spanish and 1 is all day cartoons on PBS. My antenna is in the attic. No positioning or anything. Just screwed it to a roof joist and ran the cable.

Seems like every 6-8 months I have to rescan for channels though. They keep moving around.

Tim, I'm curious which antenna you are using and if you have foil-backed roof decking on your home?

I do not have foil anything up there. This place was built in 1980, and cheaply at that.

Not sure what antenna it is, but it came from Monoprice. Similat in design to this one, but not exactly the same model.

Just a reminder, that the 200 mile range is the diameter, not the radius. So if it does in fact have a 200 mile range, that means 100 miles in either direction.

You should be able to pick up channels 25, 44, and 46. I think they come out of Temple or Waco.

When I was younger and cheaper I built something very similar to that out of a 2x2, some dollar store baking racks, spare copper wire and some sheet rock screws. Worked pretty well at the time, probably 20 years ago.

Been having issues lately with my HD Indoor Antenna
Got rid of YouTube TV a awhile back and the antenna has been good other than ABC (it's never worked good)
But today I can't seem to pick up FOX either and it's always worked (worked fine all during football season)
Anyone else have any issues? I've rescanned multiple times
Any recommendations on another brand or what I can do to improve the signals?
Thanks

The Fox channels (28-1, 28-2, 28-3, 28-4) have not been working for us for the past 3 days.

The social media pages for that group of channels with Fox 44 all have had the following message since Jan 15th:

Central Texans - our signals for KWKT, MyNetwork, Laugh, and Antenna TV in the Bryan/College Station area are currently down due to a circuit outage.

We at FOX 44 are aware of this issue and are working to resolve this problem. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I see the issue with FOX, but not getting a shred of signal for ABC recently either. No issues with cbs/nbc

Thank you for the update!
That makes sense, I figured it was something with maintenance
ABC hasn't work for me in a couple of years probably
NBC used to work but hasn't been lately
Thankfully I have peacock for the Sunday night games
I've got my antenna facing NNW currently
What direction is yalls facing?

Mostly the same direction to have better signal from abc/nbc/fox with all 3 being located in the same area. CBS signal is fantastic so no real need to face it that direction.

Our antenna is this one:

https://store.antennasdirect.com/ClearStream-4MAX-Outdoor-TV-Antenna.html

It's mounted in the attic as high as I could get it. Also have a distribution amplifier connected. The antenna is pointing somewhere between WNW and NW. We pick up all locals with no problem here in EaBry.
El_duderino
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That's what I'm eyeing or just the single figure 8 loop and as high as possible in the attic

I found that if I pointed it too far north, I would lose KBTX.

Thank y'all for the replies I really appreciate it!
Wondering if I should get an outside antenna instead of my inside one, with a stronger signal
Ill give it a few more days then I'll try to scan my channels again, adjust the angle some too
Thank you!

Channel Master is the OG antenna. I have 2. One mounted in my detached garage and one in the attic. They have a good tool on their website to find the best fit for range.

Be aware that FCC voted in Oct that stations can scrap their old ATSC 1.0 broadcasts. Initially, they were mandated to simulcast for a number of years, but stations have the option now to scrap them.

Had to buy a new TV last year and I was shocked to learn that w/ the new ATSC 3.0 it needed an internet connection to tune live TV.

I'm in Katy and when the hurricane comes and my internet is down b/c the power is out, I won't be able to get local news.

Ironically, they say ATSC 3.0 is better for storm warning.

Guess I'll have to use my cell phone as a hotspot...

ATSC 3.0 is slated for July of 2027, but will likely be pushed back by the FCC to 2028-30. It's also voluntary, not mandatory, unlike the digital conversion in 2009.

Manufacturers will also be making add-on tuners for 3.0, just like they did when OTA went digital.

Biggest issue with ATSC 3 that I have read is there are no tuners on the market that can decode the DRM encryption that stations have started using in several markets. The industry to is currently pushing for mandates of built in ATSC 3 tuners which will likely lead to most TVs becoming smart monitors that will not include any tuner. Hopefully the FCC shows patience and doesn't try to mandate 3.0 tuners before consumers are ready to demand it

Fox 44 and it's sub-channels are back on the air.
