Will it be open regular hours (7:30 am - 3:30 pm weekdays) this week?

I would think so. Why wouldn't it? The university is open.

Should be open this week.
University closes at noon on Monday, so next week it will probably be closed.

Just a heads up, however, there may or may not be a recycling dumpster located in the back of the gardens apartments that is usually available at all hours/days. Unless, of course, they have taken it away to empty it.

Hmm... went by this morning and there were signs up that said "university use only".

I can't find any other good options. Anyone have suggestions?

Has anyone called them up to get clarification about this? I heard this as well (and that the hours had been reduced to 8:00 AM to Noon).

About ready to give up on recycling everything but cans (I can take them to the scrap yard), as all the local entities seem to go out of their way to make it much harder than it need to be.

I couldn't quickly find a phone number, but emailed one of the people on the TAMU recycling page. I'll post if I hear anything back.

You look like a university employee to me. Gnome

I understand that for the most part, city residents have recycling pick up included- but for anyone who lives county, the adriance place was really the only convenient place. Now we pay a private service to pick up our recycling but that added expense isn't feasible for everyone. I was disappointed when they stopped making it available to the public.

Does that mean only people associated with (study/work at) the university can use it or only university recycling can go in the bins (i.e. items gathered from recycle bins on campus, etc.)?

I anxiously await the results of WheelinAG's inquiry.

That's only in CS. You have to contract with a separate company for recycling pick up in Bryan.

I know the original addition of the fencing and restriction of hours was because of the "This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" problem - people were using the bins as straight dumpsters.

The further restriction is annoying. I live in the county (I used to take my recycling to the Bryan yard by Walmart until they closed that) and I've got a big pile of cardboard I was going to take in soon.

Oh well. Burn pile it is.

Yep. I live in the county too, and this place was super convenient for me to pass in the morning. Looks like landfill and burning carboard it is. I'd probably pay to get a recycling can, but we're moving within 6 months, so I'm not starting any new services. Luckily, it seems our new county, Fayette, has recycling drop off!

Also, no email yet, but I went by this morning a few minutes after 8 hoping I might catch someone opening the gates. No one there, but I paid more attention this time and it's apparent it's closed. Litter all over the ground and only 4 dumpsters.

Things I saw on my weekend drop off trips before they fenced the site:

Toilets
Beds
Couches/love seats
An ancient exercise bike
Mattresses
End tables
Coffee tables
A contractor with trailer full of cardboard he had more or less bailed into modules that probably weighed 75lbs each. He was leaving the entire load there.

I'm sure there was more I didn't see. People ruined it for everyone by not dumping only what's allowed and being too lazy or cheap to either haul it to Twin Oaks, or to pay a service like a junk removal service to come pick it up.

This is an example of "this is why we can't have nice things". People.

From a Seinfeld episode:

Elaine: "I'll never understand people"
Jerry: "They're the worst"

Cant really bag up cardboard so this will be a fun experience on trash day. All of my cardboard will go straight to the trash bin now.

Which scrap yard? Do you jus take them in a bag?

I take my aluminum and steel cans down to EMR in North Bryan (I put the types in a separate bags, as it makes it easier for them to weigh and sort).

About 1/4 of the time I call the Sheriff's office to advise of intent to burn stuff, they ask what it is and if the answer is " feed sacks and some cardboard boxes", I get a semi-lecture of " you really should recycle it." I always ask where and still crickets.

Any update on the Adriance recycling place? Is it just for University stuff or folks related to the University? Ie retired?

Place an air tag in your recyclable item. Most everything goes to the same place. I know the trash business very well. If recycling was profitable you would see all kinds of places dedicated to taking used trash. I'm sorry, but that is the truth. Chipolte had recycle trash can for certain items when they opened. Now you can throw anything you want in there.

So throw away $25 on an AirTag that may or may not get close enough to an iPhone to see if the recycling ends up in the landfill?

You first.

Sounds like a good idea for some investigative journalism. Local news are you reading this? Just kidding.

I wish I thought of the airtag, but I actually watched a Youtube video

maroon barchetta

That wasn't really conclusive. A couple of the Air Tags probably got crushed. And that's in San Diego.

Who wants to donate some Air Tags to KBTX to get this investigation going? I predict similar results as the San Diego report.

How about they investigate if the place is still open first?

Maybe someone should give KBTX and Rusty a call, as it appears none of us is going to get an answer.
