I save them for the household hazardous waste events and they take them. Otherwise if you're looking to get rid of them quick I think Best Buy has a disposal on the way into the store.

A general statement about the amount of lithium batteries in today's products.

The whole go green thing is at work. I've seen the Tesla car fires videos from around the nation. Fire departments just hose the stuff down the street.

Everything is going lithium and folks are tossing it in the trash. Cell phones, power tools, toys, etc.

Scary to think we will be drinking that.

The "recycling" centers are almost non-existent.

It's quite difficult to recycle lithium batteries currently and make a profit, so nobodies doing it. It's easier and more profitable to keep taking it out of the ground.

There are a few companies working on industrial scale recycling at the moment, but they won't be in full operation for a few years at least. I'm invested in the battery recycling future. My hope is that they don't discover some new chemistry that makes Lithium obsolete before I get some growth out of those stocks....

You can recycle them at Lowe's or Home Depot, or participate in the Household Hazardous Waste Collection event.

Years ago, I would throw old batteries of all types in a box in the garage. And, every couple of years, I'd bring it to the city recycling event that they hold.
