Haven't ever flown out of Easterwood, but planning a trip this summer. Contemplating taking the 6am to Dallas and then 8:30am on to Aspen (opposed to direct from Austin).

Any concerns with cancellations out of Easterwood?

In my experience, the time you need to worry about cancellations is for your return flight if it's late in the day. I've had to rent a car and drive back from Dallas three times (maybe 20% of the time?). Never had a problem leaving Easterwood though.

I've flown in and out of Easterwood numerous times. The only issues I've ever experienced were getting back from DFW on the last flight of the day. It is my preferred option for flying. Not to mention you can park for a week at CLL for the daily rate at DFW.

Yep. First flight of the day, no problem. Just show up early enough to check your bags if needed. If you're an American flyer the first flight of the day is fine

I traveled for work for many years and flew out of Easterwood on the early am first flight to DFW 3-4 times a month. While most of my flights were on time, the main reasons the flight was delayed were:

1- The prior evening's flight from DFW was canceled. There is no way to get to DFW when there is no plane available on the tarmac at 5 am.

2- The flight the evening before arrived on time but a mechanical issue was discovered when going through the preflight checks. If serious enough, a repair crew has to travel from DFW to CLL to make repairs. You will then definitely miss your connecting flight.

3- Weather delays at DFW caused inbound flights to be held at their origin location. The good news is that the connecting flight is likely delayed as well. But no guarantees.

Same SOP with United in-the-day BUT learned that some last-flight out tickets are bought by HOU travelers that either take a joy ride or sell them to someone they pity. We got home to Aggieland once this way via a kind lady holding a ticket and forgoing her joyride. No she didn't hawk up the price.

If the last flight in arrives after 10-11 pm it affects the departure the next am because of crew rest hour restrictions. That's true at almost anyplace that is not a crew station location for any airline.

I had a different experience last time I flew out of Eastwood, I almost had to get in my car and drive to Dallas. There were plane issues so they had to get another plane from Dallas. We made it with very little time to spare.

We gambled and luckily, our gamble paid off and we were able to fly out to College Station.

A&M, if the haven't, aught to contact Cape Air to see if they would be interested to run flights from Easterwood to Austin, Houston, DFW, Maybe San Antonio and back and maybe farther.

They fly out of a lot of airports around the country on their 8 to 11 seat planes.

currently the last AA flight from DFW to CLL comes in at 1141pm.

the crew that flies that flight is not the crew that leaves out at 0500 the next day.....its a different crew.

That would be true. I didn't realize 2 planes spent the night here. That does help alleviate that issue.

We've been stranded so many times in that cesspool that is DFW by American coming home to Easterwood that we now NEVER fly American and NEVER fly through DFW. I bet it's been 12 years since we used AA or DFW. It's 1:15 to 1:30 tops from our door to IAH.

Expert move is to book early AM flight, go down the night before and stay at the Marriott on campus, valet (same price as reg parking) then wake up, jump on the Skyway in the basement and head to your terminal.

I gave up AA due to being left in DFW too many times as well. I have flown 1 time in the last 3 years from Easterwood. I now go to Bush and fly there many dozens of times in that same stretch. Got left there once...got an Uber back for about $100. Can't do that from DFW.

I have been left in DFW when not on the last flight back too. If there are not enough seats on that last plane, someone is going to get stranded.

a crew flys the last AA flight of the nite and arrives at 1140pm.
then a different crew flys that same plane out at 0500 the next day.

same plane - different crew.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! We decided to just fly out of Austin since this is a special trip and want to eliminate as many hiccups as possible.
