Councilman Yancy and others:

Does anyone have any data pertaining to how much federal money goes into our local economy?

Some examples may include federal money received by:
- The Cities
- The school districts
- Texas A&M/Blinn
- Students receiving federal loans
- "Visitors" here on a federal travel budget
- Companies in the bio-corridor

Has the City had any "what if" discussions about how the loss, or reduction, of federal money could impact our local economy?

Thank you!

Around 95% of the revenue for Food Services at BISD is from federal money.

Overall, Federal Programs account for around 7.7% of BISD total revenue.

No sir/maam. We have not looked at this. I know for a fact we receive federal grants for affordable housing projects via the Community Development Block Grant program administered by HUD; I know we receive grants for public safety; and as the chair of your Brazos County Health District, we receive grant funding from the state that originates from the feds. I do not know the totals, however.

I hope this is responsive to your question.

Respectfully yours,

Thank you,
It sounds like the City and county receive a relatively small share of federal funding.

The number that Wonka presented about Bryan ISD was shocking. If our local school districts loose federal funds, they need to make a choice of cutting back programs and/or asking us taxpayers to make up the shortfall.

I suspect that the amount of Federal money that A&M brings to our community is on a much larger scale.

Edit - Thanks Woodie for the clue on where to find some A&M data. It looks like 18% of A&M's revenue comes from "Federal Appropriations".
