Thoughts on this bill going through the legislature?

https://www.billtrack50.com/billdetail/1843440#:~:text=AI%20Summary&text=Specifically%2C%20the%20bill%20prevents%20municipalities,or%20degree%20of%20familial%20relation.

"Texas Senate Bill 1567 (SB 1567) limits home-rule municipalities' ability to regulate dwelling unit occupancy, preventing them from restricting the number of people based on age, familial status, occupation, relationship, or degree of familial relation, while still allowing occupancy limits based on health and safety standards."

Sounds like this would take away any power a city has to limit occupancy in certain areas. I hear it was initiated by some disgruntled TAMU students who got the ear of a couple of state senators.

High number bills usually don't make it that far. But we'll see.

1. It's a local issue and the state needs to stay out of it

2. Permanent residents should be dictating policy in college towns. Not people that are only there for 4-6 years and are rarely homeowners. They have no long term stake in neighborhoods or property values.

I think there needs to be protections for property owners that recognize land use rules when they purchase a property and recognize that changing the rules going forward alters the math for future use and sale. It's a complex issue - but in general I'm for rule at the smallest level of government. However- even the smallest level needs to respect the rights of the individual owner.
