I vote to take a sledge hammer to those things..

And I find it very funny that Rami said what he said, cause his dad would have called out the mafia on him if he thought there were no parking issues... (Mr G. was the biggest complainer about the lack of parking, EVER...)

The SafetySticks are not costing the city or taxpayers any money and will be removed after the 30-day survey period.

Nothing is free. Someone wants to sell Bryan some parking meters

Rami is willing to walk a block. Mr G wasn't.

Downtown Bryan had parking meters from 1946-1962. Paid parking was a major issue and added to folks patronizing businesses elsewhere like Townshire. Article from Oct. 1962 Eagle: https://ibb.co/JwhbW8Q7

Yeah, most downtowns removed their meters in the 20th century. I don't think it would be wise to now add them back.

Paid parking downtown will 100% hurt businesses.
I certainly would give other places a look before going down there if they started doing that.

Limiting time is not a terrible idea though. Putting 1 or 2 hour parking at all angled spots in front of businesses would work.

Which is already in place. Now, is it enforced? That I'm not too sure of.

I'm sure that's something these meters are capable of enforcing. Doesn't necessarily mean they are going to start charging hourly rates to park.

Correct.

Does that mean we pay a meter maid to check them? Salary? Benefits?

These would not require someone to physically go issue citations/check them. The data they collect is verified by enforcement personnel online and citations are mailed to the vehicle's owner.

Citation revenue would cover some costs, but you're not going to fix anything without spending money in this situation. The enforcement side of this solution would be significantly cheaper than having personnel enforce the existing policy.

Private company issuing citations with a kicker to the city. That sounds a lot like the red light camera fiasco.
