I've been an HEB or Costco guy since moving here. Wondering if there are better alternatives? Readfield? Rosenthal? Tenderloin, Ribeye, NY Strip....

HEB or Readfields. I want to try the butcher cuts from Casa do Brasil but haven't yet.
HEB pricing is great.
I guess I need to go over to Readfield to see for myself, but I just don't understand how the same grade of meat cut in a different building that costs twice as much would be actually different on the plate.

I buy whole and butcher vac seal myself. You can usually find whole filet, strip, ribeye and top sirloin at Costco or HEB and then hand cut your own.
For example, a whole tenderloin is like $100-$150 at Sam's/Costco. You can get 15-20 steaks out of that depending on thickness, a pack of 3- 3/4" cut filet's is like $65. If you don't mind cutting your own and have a vac sealer and freezer space it's a great cost effective alternative.

Hard to find great beef here. Decent beef is common.
Only Readfields for many years now.

For everyday beef HEB choice or prime is no better or worse than Readfields. If I want a cut above I'll splurge at Lone Star for wet or dry aged. Amazing beef artisans
Readfields in Bryan. You'll have to cross University to get there.
Readfield's. Have them cut high choice ribeyes (Chairman's Reserve) 1.5" thick. Tell them you want the longest aged they have.

Not a preservative.
That's like pointing out that your organic lettuce is packaged in with modified atmosphere.
I wasn't going anywhere with it lol I just felt compelled to share a fun fact I knew on the internet. Readfields might do it too, I haven't gotten a steak from there in a while.

All of the Readfield replies will make me go back, first and last time in was disappointing. Im spoiled with Stonecold in Cypress and tend to grab them when I'm in the area. It beats anything in this market.
Did Readfield's sell recently? Or was that just Ruffino. Not sure if the family held onto Readfield's.

The Country Store in Dime Box ... I have not shopped there and cannot comment on their products. But very nice people behind the counter of the store and they believe in their meats.
