Are there any pediatric urologists in town? Google tells me St Joes treats all ages and then of course had stuff in Houston/Austin.

Context: my brother is planning on moving to town this summer and his infant has a kidney issue that needs monitoring.

No. Unless TCH has someone that comes to town - which is possible . If they do - it's highly unlikely they do any surgical procedures here. Closest for that would be TCH in the Woodlands.

If you have a pediatrician i'd ask them. They'll know about people who come to town. If not call University Pediatrics. Pretty big practice. They'll know if anyone comes to town and how often for that specialty.

We were given the options of specialists in Temple, Austin, or Houston.

Our pediatrician said that the Houston people are good, but are not super at communicating with the pediatrician, so the parents need to take good notes.

So we went with the folks in Austin. They had a long wait for the first appointment. Then they went ahead and cancelled that one with no explanation. That pushed the appointment far enough out that the imaging we did wouldn't be usable. So we'd have to go through all that again. Two days after the reschedule, they cancelled the appointment. So can't recommend them.

I hope the one in Temple is good.

Can't speak to urology, but assuming you are at McLanes, we have always had pretty good luck with any specialist we have seen there.

My only qualm is their billing department is horrible (they are BSW, afterall). If you can stay on top of billing and are willing to question where your payment went, or why they are double/triple billing for the same thing, or billed your insurance for something and then bill you for the same thing at full rate- the medical care is worth it. Just a massive headache dealing with their billing department.
