San Antonio and College Station made Forbes' Best Places to Retire in 2025 list

Two Texas cities have been recently named among the best places in America for retirement. While the pair couldn't be more different in landscape and population one being a college town and the other a major metropolitan city they both share a few things in common, like affordability.

Look out CoCS. A lot of people moving here to retire. Good news for the local economy, bad news for the traffic situation.

Also bad news for property taxes since all these retirees will have their value frozen for ever

I know this isn't the Politics board but this brings up an interesting question:

Should retirees be voting on bond measures that encumber future taxpayers with higher taxes?

That's an argument I made recently with the Anderson CISD bond. They were sending targeted mailers to the "over 65" property owners that explicitly said "voting yes on this bond will not raise your property taxes".

Should people who do not pay any income tax, vote in any national election? Same principle.

One of the perks of CS is it's bike-ability.

Ya right, biking in 100+ temps for months at a time is optimal! As are bike lanes that abruptly stop at random intersections.

Most places (22 out of 25) on the list have median home prices at or below the national average ($404,000)
