Gold's is running a great spring special and I need to get back in the gym, so I'm thinking about giving them a try. They claim month-to-month, 30 day cancellation "no hassle link on website". Last time I belonged to Gold's was like fifteen years ago and we had a hard time getting our cancellation processed.

That said, I'm not planning on cancelling providing the gym is in good shape and it's not overcrowded from open to close. I'd probably like to work out around 8 or 9 in the morning if it's not insane then - hoping the before work crowd might have cleared out by then. Naturally there were some Facebook comments on the ad with some interesting comments but I figured I'd let the Aggieland board weigh in.

I'm also thinking about Anytime Fitness but it's $20/month more. I don't want to have to go any farther in to town as I know that will reduce the number of times I actually make it to the gym.

Not interested in classes, trainers etc. - just want some machines and free weights to lift on.

TIA

Something to look into, Active and Fit, to see if you have access to it. I use it though TAMU BCBS benefits.

It gives me a reduced membership at Golds, Tower Point, and after a pre-pay of 3 months you can cancel any time and can also move memberships to other participating gyms.

Been going to Golds for several months close to a year now, I get there with the before work crowd, arrive when it opens at 5 most days.

Have not had any issues with the gym itself. I just do basic workouts to try to get/stay healthy....

I'm a member at the tower point location, I have never had any issue with the people, cleanliness or over crowding. That being said I typically go in the evenings and in the mornings on the weekends. Broken machines seem to get fixed with 2-3 weeks which is pretty fast in my opinion for a gym!

I only used the Tower Point Golds once or twice, several years ago. The biggest impression I got was that they had a much higher proportion of their floor space devoted to cardio machines (treadmills, ellipticals, etc) than either their Brentwood or (now closed) Tejas Center locations.

I have been a member of tower point golds gym for a few years. It can get a little crowded around 5p, but has plenty of space in the mornings and lunch time. The staff is great and they do a good job maintaining equipment.

Its a lot nicer with newer equipment than Brentwood. Agree with the poster that said there is too much cardio equipment - they need more squat racks and / or benches.

Long time ago I had issues with cancelling. The last time I cancelled I had no issues and I am about to rejoin at the same rate you posted.

The ratio of cardio equipment to weights is my only complaint also, but it's not that bad

Thanks all, this is exactly what I was hoping to hear.

For any that might be interested, the special they are running from now through 5/23 is:

$0 enrollment
$10/month for first two months
$29.99 / month after that
Month-to-month, no contract, 30 day cancel "easy link on our website" (no chasing down a manager to approve it like I had to deal with 15 years ago or whenever it was)

Fine print: $59.99 annual maintenance fee due once a year, first payment on the 15th of your second month, then every 12 months thereafter.

All in all, still a pretty good deal.

Adding - there is a $59.99/annual fee (just went through it) - so keep that in mind. But still not bad for $35/month once you factor that in. And you have access to Brentwood (well all of Gold's)

Edited - looks like you did it too.

I highly encourage you to sign up inside the Gym instead of online. We had a huge issue canceling a membership made online and there was no phone number for the corporate office to get it fixed. The local manager had to intervene for us twice to get the monthly charges to stop. She said if we signed up inside the club, it's easier for them to cancel.

A little over a year ago, I rejoined Gold's for the group classes (body pump, etc). Unfortunately most of the group classes were early in the day (not good for someone who still works). Usually only one class after 5:30 pm. Also - some of their group classes require an extra fee (I forget what it was called). The floor in the main group classroom had to undergo major repairs so they moved the classes to another and smaller room for much of the year, which limited class size. Found myself using it less and less so I ended up cancelling late last year as soon as my one year was up. As others have said, it is fine for cardio and weights (they do get the machines fixes quickly).

Does Golds at Tower Point still operate kids club?
If they do, what is the age range?

I think they charge for it now. But I don't know anything beyond that.

Yes they do, been several years since I used it. Don't know the age range or prices, but I think the college kids in the front would answer these questions.

Re: the OP, I like this gym overall. It's clean and never feels overcrowded. Kind of a bummer they never re-opened the lap pool after COVID-19, but that may have been a corporate decision.

You could consider asking them for a 3 day or 7 day pass to try it before you buy it.....

Kids club is $10/month, per kid. Total game changer for us

Try using Silver Sneakers if you have retired from the system and have BCBS. No fees. Easy peasy.
