My son graduates from high school tonight. The event is at Reed Arena. Someone told me it is like 3+ hours long. Is that true?

I have back issues, and I don't think I can sit there that long. Maybe I should go later, since his name is towards the end of the alphabet anyway. Anyone been thru this before?

You're not forced to sit the entire time. Sit on the end of a row, get up and walk around if you need. Consol starts at 8pm. That's going to be a late night! Have fun!

My son's starts at 4pm. But, I guess it will last until 7pm?

My son is graduating from Consol (8PM), they were told it wouldn't be more than 90 minutes at practice yesterday. It's been a while since our other kid graduated but I remember that they ran through everything fairly quickly.

We have dealt with that at a couple of graduations at Reed.

Just make sure that your group sits on a back row so you don't interrupt the experience for others. It's so big, you can pick where you sit.

That's what we did.

It can last no longer than 1.5 hours. Schools are fined for every minute over.

Not sure how it compares to amount of people at an A&M graduation, but once they reach capacity they will not let anyone in. Just fyi

Yeah. I've never heard that either. And I've had two kids graduate from CSISD.

She may have misheard or whoever told her may have been misinformed.

I've had two graduate and I've helped with setting up post graduation events a few times.

Graduation guidelines are usually set by the districts. Time frames at large venues like Reed are set by the venue.

CSHS was almost two hours today. Big 6A graduations regularly go three hours.

Edit: I wasn't trying to call you out with my original post.

This is what the BHS grads were told last year. I actually had an admin tell me that too.

I'm sure that was said in jest.
Who is going to travel around the state and time graduation ceremonies?

It just started a year or two ago. Reed has so many graduations that they can't afford for them to go too long. The parking lot has to turn over. They have said they will charge if a ceremony goes over 1.5 hours, but I'm not sure they've actually done it .

It turned out to be about 2 hours long

Who pays the fine for being 30 minutes over the allotted 90 minutes? Where does the money go?

A&M Consol was about 1:45 minutes. It then took about 2 hours to find your kid afterward outside. Most of them were curled up in a fetal position outside begging for their gaming chair.

Tomball Memorial's ceremony ran late on Friday and it was definitely evident being on Olsen for 15 minutes trying to get into the parking lot for CSHS's graduation an hour before it started. TM did get fined.

Tomball Memorial had their graduation at Reed Arena? That's an awful long way to drive. There are no suitable venues down there?

Odd.

Odd.
not really, it's quicker to come to BCS than drive into Houston. Plus you have million HS in Houston all graduating at the same time.
