Optimum's price guarantee has expired and they do not appear to want to provide any promotions to match their current "new" offers or Metronet's price.

Before I make the switch - does any one have any recent comparisons?

Thanks!

We've had Metronet for 2 years now, left Less Than Optimum. Difference has been night and day. Metronet is way faster to us. We have the 1g fiber service, coming from LTO's 1g cable service, we have 7 TV's and can stream full HD on all of them simultaneously. No bottlenecks, no slowdowns and things like youtube and YTTV automatically display in full HD.

I have seen a person on this board complain about latency with Metronet but whatever their latency is doesn't affect our family. We have no "gamers" so maybe the latency is a big thing to them. I work from home sometimes and use multiple VPN's and virtual/cloud based servers and performance in those realms is MUCH improved from LTO's crappy product. 2 years and no buyers remorse.

We have metronet and love it.

The only time we've had an issue, they sent out a very knowledgeable tech and it's been great since.

Is Metronet in CS, too, or just a Bryan thing?

Just Bryan.

Frontier is in College Station.

Anyone find a way around the Metronet "support fee" or whatever they call it? it was like $8 or $12 a month i think that made it less advantageous to switch.

OP - I called Optimum as I realized my bill had shot up to about $80/mo for like 200 or 500 mbps. I threatened to cancel and now im at 1 gig for under $60. I haven't plugged directly into router to test speeds, and could also need to upgrade my Eero system (which you do get for free with Metronet I think), but I am not getting anywhere near 1 gig on wifi FWIW (275 on wifi connected to my optimum router. only about 90 connected to my Eeros)

After talking to Optimum (threating to leave etc,), they were willing to match Metronet for a multiple year guarantee for around $55/month for 1 GB service) There were a couple of gotcha's that they were unwilling to work on (at that moment).

Needless to say Metronet is coming out next week to hook up service since Optimum was so painful to work through.

Thank you all for the responses.

I'd pick anything over Optimum/suddenlink. They're the worst. I'm so thankful I don't have to deal with them anymore!!

New internet provider breaks ground in Brazos County, introducing a fiber optic network to keep rural areas connected https://www.kbtx.com/2025/05/30/new-internet-provider-breaks-ground-brazos-county-introducing-fiber-optic-network-keep-rural-areas-connected/
I live in Bryan etj. I have a fiber optic line in the air and underground crossing my driveway. I cannot access either for less than 20k and a thousand or so a month from what I'm told. I'm very happy with Brazos WiFi fixed wireless and have Starlink as a fall back plan. So don't tell me how you are going to fix a problem when the opportunity has been there for 5 or more years and hasn't happened.

We have Frontier in CS and love it! No issues. Leaving Optimum was the best decision ever!

Good to know. I've had outages with Optimum three straight weeks. Time to make a change.

Please baby Jesus, let us have more than one option for South CS (Nantucket). I had Metronet in Bryan, but when I got married last year I moved and they weren't servicing anywhere near South College Station at the time. i've had a few outages and I am totally hamstrung because I work from home two days a week. Considering Starlink or even Mobile Starlink as a back up. But if Starlink didn't have issues with weather (from what I've heard), I would not be opposed to using them as my main provider in South CS.

My mom made the switch to Metronet and she's had multiple outages because of issues at other houses.

Just paid my Optimum bill and realized they still can't seem to fulfill their promises. Last year a guy promised a $150 gift card if I stayed on and made my payments for 3 months. I realized I never got it so I called. They agreed to 2 free months because of the issue. Never got them. Called back and they said they can't give the 2 months their guy promised but they agreed to 2 months at $15/ month. I got one month at $15 and just paid the full price this month.

Every time you get a different guy and they claim they can never see what the others promised. I figured out they have a certain amount of credits they can use either for the day, week or month so it really depends who you get and how much they have to give you.

Comcast says they will buildout fiber to the home in both Bryan and College Station in 18 months. They will provide TV and internet services.
