PSA that the new gas station on 60 towards Snook has ethanol free. I think it just opened this week, great location if you're taking a boat to Somerville vs having to go to the Bryan Wal Mart.

Interesting to me that they opened a Tailgate convenience store directly across Stotzer (FM 60) from another Tailgate convenience store. Then there is a Touchdown market about to open next door, all 3 stations in an area without an intersection other than Jones Rd.

Yeah, thought that was weird as well but I hope it makes it because that's a really convenient spot if you're going to the lake. Been removing my tanks and going to Bryan but now I can just swing in there on the way.

Traveling the Midwest and surprisingly many gas stations offer "Premium" unleaded which is ethanol-free for about $.50 more per gallon.

My question: does it really improve anything in today's auto engines?

While some premium gasoline sold at certain stations may be ethanol-free, it's not a standard feature. In the US, most gasoline, including premium, is required to contain at least 10% ethanol. Premium is an octane rating, it has nothing to do with ethanol-free.

I don't know anything but the experts on the outdoors board and elsewhere on the internet think it makes a difference in small engines or boat engines so that's why I use it.

Understand the octane rating. This is some marketing name and in hindsight it may have been Premium Ultra. But is more expensive than Premium.

Saw this on the Kansas Turnpike a couple weeks ago. Choose your flavor.

Corn squeezins destroy the rubber fuel lines and carb parts in small engines.

I work not far from there and from what I can tell, every Dailey Electric truck fuels up at the gas station that's been open across the road for a couple of years even though it's more expensive than the average station in town. It's probably true for all of the other businesses in that complex with fleet vehicles, they just aren't as easy to spot.

I've also seen a number of landscaping and other type crews fueling up there, which may explain the access to ethanol free fuel since it runs cleaner in small engines. Personally, I had to change carbeurators on my mower at least once a year, plus run some cleaning agents just to keep the thing putzing along with normal gas. Once I switched to ethanol free, my mower runs better and I haven't had to replace or treat anything yet. I recognize this is anecdotal and I could be wrong, but if I was running $20k worth of "small" engines for my business I might be willing to buy ethanol free fuel if it reduced my down time for repair.

I'm excited to not have to cross the highway to go get lunch when I forget to bring some.

My "fondest" memory of the that Tailgate location was during the 2021 Snowmaggedon, the owner bought a bunch of HEB milk, then had it priced at more than 2x what he paid. With HEB having resupply problems.
Never darkened his door again.
And yes, gas there is always higher than average, sometimes $0.30+/gallon more, hoping the "Touchdown" store at Jones Rd doesn't collaborate with the Tailgate owner, on pricing.

I've never assumed they were pillars of the community and that kind of confirms it for me.

So long as one of the two others has $3 pizza slices or something similar I don't have plans to cross the highway again.

Yep. Welfare carve out for the corn farmers. Not good for your car. My dad's grizzled old mechanic said do NOT use it!
