I heard councilman Wright on a WTAW clip this morning talking about there being constant interest in the Macy's building.
Since this is publicly owned land by the city, there should be no reason to hide the specifics of all this interest. Please share all the times, dates, and interested parties that Mr Wright alluded to.

Thanks in advance for being a council that is transparent.

We know of one local businessman that was interested and had a really strong proposal for using that space.

Other than that, I've heard very little.

I can't speak to my colleague's interview. He speaks for himself, of course, as do we all.

I will say that any facility sitting empty that's the size and scope of the former Macy's will generate interest, and we have some.

I'm keenly focused on it. I inquire about it at every opportunity. I don't like that it's just sitting there while the heart of the mall is lit up. (My wife and I were in there last Saturday and I thought we'd stepped into a time portal back into 80's, there were so many people.)

I, as one member of council, am eager to clear the asset, for the right deal.

***I hope interested parties are looking at the increase in our mall foot traffic carefully. She's the only mall at scale in the county, and the former Macy's is the most visible, with direct highway frontage.***

There's "ongoing" interest. Matters discussed in executive session are not subject to disclosure. Apologies.

Ongoing, current, and viable interest. You know I like transparency, but that's all I've got this morning.

Dude.

She's asking if you and your wife were in the mall Saturday (two days ago) or the Saturday before that. I think her interest is when was there a crowd? Because of course there will be a crowd right before school starts.

The parking lot outside the Macys is evidently where all the uhaul folks are storing the influx/overflow of trucks and trailers coming into town until they can be picked up. How's that for itnterest?

So 2 days ago during move in? I'm not saying the mall doesn't get busy occasionally but basing your view of attendance there on a complete outlier of a weekend is not enough.

Constant interest and selling for something that generates real benefit and doesn't represent a loss on the initial investment are two totally different things.

At this point, I am ready to sell Macys to a megachurch and just cut our losses. I know it will be a tax hit.

Hear me out though…

Mega church goes in at Macy's

After-church crowd hits up mall restaurants every Sunday. Luby's returns and sets up in the mall!!!

Then people walk a bit and shop before heading home to nap or watch NFL games.

Boom. More sales tax.

This is a win-win.

Sooooo, basically, it's "Schrodinger's Macy's interest" since it occurred during Executive Session.

I wish more people would recognize this. "If we never sell it we, never realize a loss" is fake accounting nonsense meant to excuse keeping the building on the city's books at great expense to taxpayers.

Holding an asset like that for no good reason is very expensive. I understand that some big spenders don't want to lose the building because they have pickleball dreams or want to the option to put the kibosh on redevelopment. But it is too much money to be so frivolous with. Taxpayers have much better things to do with their money.

COLLEGE STATION CITY COUNCIL, YOU NEED TO SELL THE BUILDING YOU AREN'T USING. WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH Y'ALL?

I am not dunking on him. I trust him and not Wright. Wrights interview sounded like a bunch of blowing smoke up the public's posterior, so I want detail on "all this constant interest" being shown by potential investors.

It's property owned by the city so anyone coming to.the council showing interest should be public knowledge and not hidden behind some "we cant disclose anything from.executive meetings" excuse.

If there is constant interest as Wright said, then the city shouldn't be afraid to give details about it.

But the current perception the council is giving off is not one of transparency, but rather "we'll just tell the public it is getting interest when there really isnt any". The tone Wright gave in the interview was definitely deception so emailing him wont yield a result.

So if Wright was being truthful, Bob should.definitely be in the know on all this interest.

So just give us details of the interest so we know there is actually a lot of interest.

Doubtful. But, I would also expect many of the things kicking the tires (if they exist) would have an NDA with them.

Agree with you on Councilman Wright. He is up for reelection next year and am hoping someone runs against him. He has the same attitude at city council meetings.

Why would we expect Yancy to disclose anything? He went from recognizing citizens obviously don't want to waste money on crazy expensive ballfields to saying he had secret evidence that voters changed their mind.

With Macy's, he insisted that the city had tried to sell the property but nobody was interested. It turned out that was not true. All the city had done was an RFP where the city was asking for people's project proposals where less than half of the criteria for selection was sales price.

Obviously with the Hopkins thing, everybody in the city is trying to hide the very bad behavior of CSPD.

Between ballfields, Macy's, and Hopkins, transparency does not appear to be the MO.

The Mall property should be sold or liquidated asap so that the taxpayers quit taking hits on the utility and maintenance.

There should be a state law that states the cities, counties, and school districts cannot purchase any real property that is not purchased for its own specific current or projected future use,
