May someone recommend a quality, but still reasonable, mechanic in BCS to repair a car AC system? We charged the freon with no success so it's either electrical or a bad compressor. Thanks in advance!

It's an older car for my kids. A 2003 Accord but in good shape and lower miles than usual. The clutch is engaging now and then but not consistently. Would that warrant replacing the compressor and condenser?

Did you put gauges on the system to check high and low level Freon pressure ? Or just a gauge on the low side ?

I would test the clutch cycling switch. If it has 2 terminals you can use a jumper wire to temporarily bypass it and see if the clutch engages and if it cools properly. If it cools jumped then replace the switch. It's been 20 plus years since i worked on a Honda but on ford and Chevy you can replace the switch without removing the refrigerant. Not sure about Honda though. I think it may have to be evacuated to change it unlike domestics.

Sometimes you just need to replace the clutch. Don't need to open the system at all to do that. You see you recharged it. Were you using gauges, or one of those cheap cans from the auto store with a gauge on it? Stay away from those things. Really need a gauge on it to get high and low side pressures. But if it's just the clutch you might be able to DIY depending how comforatble you are with that. I've done it.
