I thought this speed limit was supposed to go back to normal. I swear I heard that somewhere. I haven't seen any work being done in a long time, it's time to get rid of the work zone

I remember seeing the council voted to end the work zone but it said nothing about raising the speed limit. 45 is stupid, but I think it's here to stay.

That's ridiculous if true. 45 is way too slow for a 3 lane road like that.

The 45mph signs without accompanying construction zone signs also worry me. Would be terrible if someone replaced them with 55mph signs

The CS Council approved a 50mph limit.. but I don't think it was stated if that was going to apply to the whole portion, from University to Wellborn.

I flew through around midnight last Friday morning going about 75 before I realized it was 45. That's a hard adjustment from driving in from Austin or SA. I don't think I ever got below 50 outside of in Caldwell.

It is easy to find out. The city staff is responsive to this kind of inquiry.

Ridiculous given that the speed limit on Wm. D. Fitch coming off Wellborn is 60 mph.

55 on 2818 would be reasonable as 99% of drivers will be going 65+.

If you are ever upset to be behind someone doing 45mph in that stretch of 2818, it's ok. You are behind me.

I've seen too many people pulled over and ticketed to feel it's worth it to speed thru that short stretch.

It was 70 after it opened. So was Capstone if you can believe it.

Set your cruise control at the speed limit. It is by far the best approach to College Station/TAMU police enforcement. You're going to get anywhere you need to go fast enough anyway. May as well eliminate the risk.

That said, the council has voted, and they need to get the permanent signs up.
I would question the validity of any tickets written right now on that stretch.

I think I've also noticed it less patrolled recently, especially compared to July/August. The patrols found that area during that time period and patrolled it militantly. I drive it twice daily. Seemed like they were enjoying lining their coffers with tickets.

Go speed thru there and get a ticket and report back here with how all that works out for you.

If you think that's bad, wait until they start adding a third lane to the bypass. It'll be 45 all the way from Fitch to Hwy 21 for a couple years or so.

Yep, I normally do that and once is a while go 3 to 4 mph over if I am in a hurry but that's my limit, I have driven over a million miles in my lifetime and have received two speeding tickets in small towns in East Texas,

It's just not worth a $200+ fine to get to my destination 10 minutes early,

My 15.5 year old was complaining about that 45 mph yesterday. Her driving instructor had to tell her to slow down a few times.

What's even crazier is it's 55 on Wellborn in front of the Jones Crossing HEB.

It's does slow to 45 in that area heading north. Right near Chicken Salad Chick.

And CSPD will often sit under the 2818 overpass with their radar gun pointed at the northbound cars to ticket those that didn't slow to 45mph.

Same. I've seen people do some sketchy driving to get around me. Sub-optimal speed limits in either direction are a hazard. I'll also echo the person that noticed reduced police camping as soon as the students got back. Guess they aren't bored anymore.

Even before they redid that stretch of 2818, there was an oddity to the speed limits. Southbound, the speed limit was 60 until just before George Bush, where it dropped to 55. Northbound, it was 55 until just before F&B, where it increased to 60.

My theory was that CoCS and Bryan couldn't agree on where to change the limit, and the stretch through the university became a kind of No Man's Land.

I don't think this needs a thread of its own.

How many of you going northeast on Harvey Road under the Highway 6 bridge have been slowed down by drivers going 25 to 40 miles per hour all the way to the turn off for Veterans Park. It's like they think it's a residential street.

Also irritating are slow drivers who won't close the gap in traffic even if they could do it without exceeding the speed limit.
