Does anyone know why all the equipment has been removed from Hwy Fitch between Tonkaway and Hwy 30? The job is not completed.

Councilman Yancy commented on my post about this last week but I have not seen an update. He's probably got bigger fish to fry …

Phase I is complete.

Phase II should go out for bid sometime in early 2028.

Wish they would've fixed that bounce coming in on the bridge eastbound. It sucks going through there with a loaded trailer and jars the whole truck.

From Rusty today:

"I had someone reach out to ask why they haven't seen a lot of work happening on William D Fitch between SH 6 and Highway 30. City hall responded this morning with an update:
"The Larry Young Paving crew is returning to install the remaining asphalt paving this week. It's expected to take about three weeks." "

They look to have also completely pulled off of WJB (I realize that's not Yancy's territory). And did they ever landscape the fancy raised planters on Greens Prairie?

No. Not those or the one they had to demo in front of the new fire station property.

They opened up all lanes of WJB but at least one roundabout isn't open. Pro tip: If headed west from Villa Maria toward downtown, stay in the right lane approaching the first roundabout. I watched 2 cars in front of me in the left lane hit the roundabout due to sharp angles.

10 days later now and exactly zero work being done on the Fitch project. A couple of pieces of heavy equipment brought back last week but nothing near what's needed to finish.

Too many projects city wide including private, TXDOT, and city government. Not enough employees to get all the work done. That's my take on it.

I'm sorry I've been slammed. Just got home from council and just sent an email requesting an update.

Here's your update:

*****

WD Fitch Phase 1 is almost complete, we are currently awaiting the final 2" layer of asphalt and the traffic striping that will follow. Traffic is currently open in both directions. The contractor did pull their crews off for a couple of weeks to another (TXDOT) project. The crews are expected to be back next week, however we were notified yesterday that the asphalt supplier is experiencing a plant issue, so they are looking into other options for that. Regardless, we expect the project to be completed mid-late October.

WD Fitch Phase 2 (Tonkaway to Rock Prairie) has been awarded and will get started following the completion of Phase 1 and is expected to take 1 year.

Awesome. Thanks. Not looking forward to phase 2. But that explains everything I'm seeing. It is open both directions currently- but it's not a safe drive with all the dump traffic. Appreciate the work councilman!

Of course. Sorry it took so long. Staff gave an immediate, detailed response that I could've had a week ago had I just asked. My email account has been buried. My bad.

Apologetically

Now no work for 5 weeks at least. 5 weeks with no weather to cause delay. Hard to understand how a project is stopped for so long.
