The CS City Council meeting went for hours last night as 75 residents spoke of their concerns to build a data center in Midtown So many of us attended as we overflowed into 2 other meeting rooms plus the lobby.

And they listened yall!!! Unanimously voted No! Thank you for hearing us

This would have been in my backyard
To celebrate, I'm biking Lick Creek Trail today appreciating the trees, the wildlife and peace.

I am not advocating for a data center but you may want to take this momentum to get the area behind your house rezoned from industrial. This deal didn't require rezoning and the zoning on this land has been in place for almost 25 years. It predates almost every home that backs up to it. The industrial designation is too broad and either needs to be broken into small sets of uses or the area rezoned into a better use with the city approved residential homes adjacent to it.

One possibility is to rezone that area and break it up into parcels so it can be used for multiple smaller businesses, similar to the business park located south of there on Lakeway. I wouldn't mind a small data center going in one of those spots, but not a crypto-mining or AI data center - a smaller data center for local businesses to use for colocations etc. Fibertown is an excellent example of a small, local data center. It's located in downtown Bryan and you wouldn't even know it's a data center from walking past it on the sidewalk.

But I completely agree - that's no longer a good place for anything industrial, as may have seemed like thirty years ago. "SoCo" has changed and involved quite a bit in the past several decades.

I literally cried with my wife and daughter when the 4th "no" was said. We love our home. We love our neighbors and neighborhood.

Whoever thought this was a "good idea and needs exploring" needs to go sit in a corner and rethink things, because that was the worst idea in the history of ideas.
