And it begins on Hwy 6...

TXDOT begins preparations for highway construction

Quote:

The widening project itself is expected to span five to seven years, and landscaping will follow that completion.

This is going to be a nightmare.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

They also started construction on Hwy 30 yesterday south of Hardy Weedon.

Pretty much every main road I travel in BCS is now under construction - Hwy 30, Hwy 6, 1179.

And Calvert, that is on TxDOTs 50-70 year plan.

For Gen Alpha.

Texas really needs to speed up infrastructure expansion. We are WAY behind and as we grow we are paying the price.
Roads. Power. Water. Etc.

Yep.

Need new highways, or expanding existing ones where possible.

Build new nuclear power plants, as well as SMRs, for sustained base load.

New reservoirs, construct desalination plants, and the pipeline infrastructure to move the water from the coast to where it is needed. Nuclear + desalination is a winning combination.

As soon as they finish, the traffic load will be enough that it'll need to be 4 lanes in each direction.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Unfortunately by the time they are done they will need 4 lanes on each side instead of 3.

Adding lanes doesn't even substantially help the flow of traffic

Many years ago Paul Harvey opined about an article in the Brenham Banner-Press. It explained that in 3 Million years our sun would burn out. What was the point? That TxDOT would have to complete US 290 between Houston and Austin in the dark.
I expect the SH6 will be on the same schedule.

Just wait until the Highway 30 bridge over the Navasota goes under construction for the rebuild. That's the real nightmare coming.

Half the new bridge will be built and traffic moved to it at the same configuration we have now.

No one follows the speed limits on 6 anyways. Cops don't pull people over in Brazos and Grimes counties. Now hit the Waller county line and everyone knows to cut it down to 65

Go all-in on flying vehicles. Government could GIVE one to every person and still save money.

Agree for the need for 4 lanes in each direction or we're going to be right back where we started a few years after they "finish." Unfortunately, strongly doubt anyone at TxDOT has that kind of foresight.
