On Monday the city has a special council meeting at 1:30 pm. Few seem to be aware of it.

The subject of this meeting is making final decisions on capital projects.

The timing of this meeting is extremely fishy. It reeks of trying to push something through without any community input once again. (Shocking, I know)

I'm posting this to make citizens aware, and bring to light things that the city seems to want to conceal.

We don't need another Police Palace, Fire Mansion, or City (Taj Ma)Hall.

So, once again, denizens of College Station, I urge you to email your elected officials. Let them know that public input is necessary, and this is *FAR* from transparent, good government.

Sure. Give a few days notice during the winter break when people have forgotten even what day it is.

Totally coincidental scheduling, I'm sure.

Be sure to have the meeting in the middle of the first work day back for most of the county so attendance will be light.

It's late. I know I can Google it myself. But does anyone have a link to the meeting agenda they are willing to share?

extremely non informative... Transparency?

"The City Council may adjourn into Executive Session to consider any item listed on the agenda if a matter is raised that is appropriate for Executive Session discussion"

i.e. None of your damned business taxpayers....

This is standard language for the Texas Open Meetings Act and not really a CoCS thing specifically.

So, one very large capital project that is likely on the agenda is a new building for public works.

Some details here - https://www.highergov.com/sl/contract-opportunity/tx-rfp-cmar-25-046-new-public-works-facil-46678781/

The total cost of the project will be $35M+

Hey @Bob Yancy, what's going on?
Bob Yancy

There's nothing nefarious or hidden going on- just a prioritization or re-prioritization of capital irons in the fire, so to speak. The meeting was formally noticed in advance and staff just need to know exactly what comes next.

I'm not a fan of a complete rebuild and relocation of the Public Works HQ- particularly with no disposition plan for the former police station or the current public works hq behind it. I believe the public works hq should get a new motor depot and I'd like to see us address turnover in the dept from a compensation standpoint, albeit that's a separate bucket of funds.

Fair?

My positions on capital projects remain the same in virtually all respects.

Respectfully yours and happy 2026 to all!

Formally noticed how far in advance?

Why the 1pm meeting time?

What other than Public Works facility will be discussed?

I believe the notice requirement changed from 72 hours to 3 full business days, but I could be wrong on that. We usually exceed the minimum by quite a bit. I've had this meeting notice several days- albeit I'm still calendar discombobulated from the holidays.

Edited to add: not sure why 1pm.

Every capital project on the list is fair game for discussion.

Does that include Pebble Creek Parkway? The Council made a unanimous commitment to the residents of Pebble Creek...... If that begins to go South, I hope you'll insist on an open forum to be held at Pebble Creek before any changes are made.

I hold to the vote I made. Also glad we didn't allow 4 lanes on the parkway. I also believe if the extension decision gets overridden, then a roundabout with an easterly spur to Rock Prairie and a westerly spur to Lakeway is the way to go. That was my original conclusion and I've heard nothing to refute its efficacy. I'd also like to see Lakeway extended to ensure its a future "backage road" (TxDOT unofficial term), with some mixed use development in that area. I've always wondered why some servicing retail- a nice restaurant or two- couldn't have been planned for the CS business park. I think mixed use would've been great there, with restaurants in walking distance of the businesses. Maybe that will happen when Lakeway is extended.

Sorry I digress.

It is not on Ch19 but you can join this virtual meeting link! Meeting still on going. I'm here in person listening for you all. Please ask any questions you may have and I can do my best to answer from what I'm hearing here.

its not in council chambers, so i assume thats why its not on Channel 19. The meeting is a multipurpose room. You can watch via the Teams link at the top of the agenda. Its just a meeting where staff appears to be just going over possible Cap projects so the council can help understand them so they can prioritize. its very boring and uninformative. They aren't deciding anything or really doing anything - my take

Put the pitchforks away - Yall are funny

Agreed, and they are a useful tool. Look what happened with the data center, it worked.

But, people grabbing pitchforks and throwing words like "secretive" around when the link to the meeting stream is at the top of the agenda that is posted here, as well as on the city website is not productive, and makes the pitchfork carriers look silly.

Stay informed, and pick your battles.

Really tired of getting painted like a kook when their track history is piss poor in this regard.

Maybe let people know, in bold letters ****THIS WILL NOT BE ON CHANNEL 19. THIS WILL NOT BE STREAMED IN THE NORMAL WAY ****

That's just waaayyyyyyy too much to ask.

I'm kinda familiar with the datacenter thing.

Here is a novel idea give us the 132 million back in the form of tax cuts and put these items out for a vote that would increase the tax rate back up to pay for them.

and stop buying rent houses (on Thursdays agenda). I know there is fed $, but I have a hard time believing COCS time, $, and resources aren't being used as well.

College Station City Council to consider multiple real estate projects

Quote:

The College Station City Council may take action on multiple real estate projects during its meeting on Thursday.

The council could act on three developments KBTX has reported on over the past year: the 80 acres of land behind Costco, the 28 acres next to Costco, and the former Macy's property at Post Oak Mall. All three items could come up for action following the executive session.
