Outside of doing it yourself, where is the best place to get oil change?

For a quick one it's hard to beat Take 5. You don't even get out of your car.

Dealership. They are usually pretty price comparable and you know you are getting OEM filters and the actual recommended oil for your vehicle. I'm sure some of the quick lube type places use quality oil and filters but there are enough out there that cut corners to help their margins to make me weary of using any of them.

I've used Gladney, Quicklane (ford), and Pilgers. I'm big on avoiding the dealership outside of warranty work, but I've actually been happiest with Quicklane.

CS Ford quick lane is well run. I like it way better than other dealer's options.

All of the Take 5's have been good in my experience.

Ill just say to Google "Take 5 ruined my engine". Its not uncommon. Heck, its happened multiple times here (my car was one of them). It happens frequently enough that there are multiple reddit threads, lawyers that have "articles" about recourse, and multiple threads on various forums. My issue was in 2019, but I will never use them again or recommend them after having to buy a new car less than a week after an oil change.

This is the single worst place I've been to in my entire life.

They refer to it as the fastest oil change on earth or something like that. It's true, you don't get out of your car...for over an hour and fifteen minutes when there is a line in the blazing summer heat. Then they proceeded to charge me $115.

Go to the Wolf Pen location over by Gringo's. There is never anybody there. Even got sent a coupon in the mail recently for a $35 oil change with free car wash in their building behind them as I think they are struggling for business.

In and out in 20 minutes flat.

ETA: Take 5 I'm referring to is on SW Pkwy. Can't speak for other locations.

Yep.

There is a reason all of the guys on the Auto Board change their own oil.

If you go at peak times, sure.

How did they ruin your car? Did they cross thread the filter or plug and the oil leak out?

I see a few people who say they neglected to fill the car with oil. They always show me the level of oil in the car prior to me starting it up and leaving.

I also see a diesel that they over filled. I don't drive diesels. However, I do keep a sharp eye on the technicians because I know these are not exactly genius level mechanics.

I think I went around 2:30 in the afternoon on a random Wednesday. Is that a peak time for an oil change?

I'd normally go to Shammy but that offshoot Wolf Pen location I mentioned did the job in a hurry and for 1/3 of the price.

I'd advise anybody to call ahead though before to see if they are open. I've been by when their doors were closed during a regular work day and my buddy has gone by when there was only one employee and he was taking a nap in the back.
