Like TexMex, Pizza is everywhere. We typically meet friends at Pinthouse Pizza weekly. If that falls through, it's the local Baldinucci. I had been meaning to try the takeout pizza dough, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni from Pinthouse and finally did this week. $17 for two small pizzas. Amazingly delicious and significantly cheaper feeding three than Baldinucci at $20/person. We used to do pizza day when the kids were small. Great fun, but the dough, sauce, and cheese was never perfect. We'll certainly do this more often in the future.

Best pizza is at home. Look at that crust. Drool.

If you haven't tried it, Southern's in Leander is worth the drive. By far my favorite pizza place around.

The default is Home Slice. Not saying it's the best but the base line for good pizza in Austin. All others are ranking above or below Home Slice. Or at least that's my ranking system.

If you're on South 1st Dovetail is really good too.

Baldinucci's is great because of all the styles they serve.

Little Deli, Homeslice, Tony C's, Conans, and Aviator are all in the rotation in our North Austin group that likes to meet for pizza on a regular basis. I like DeSanos too, but they always seem too spendy compared to the rest. Tony C's is our most regularly visited spot. The value, location, and interior setup is hard to beat.

Agree with the recs: little deli, Tony c, desanos.

Another that is back in the rotation is Brooklyn Pie off of parmer. They are good again.

Aviator breaks my heart that their pizza is so crappy. I want them to be good because it's such a great place to take kids but I can't give them any more money for their pizza.

We had an Austin's pizza that used to be good with a nice fenced playground. Best softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball victory destination outside of hat creek in the hood. BYOB with a liquor store in the same shopping center for the unprepared. Fortunately, the kids grew up before the pizza went downhill.

Brick Oven on Red River used to be the best. The other location was pretty good, not great. We had a great Conan's and even better Mangias for many years. Certainly miss those.

Give VIA 313 pizza a try. I think there's 2 or 3 around the Austin metro area. It's Detroit style pizza baked in a deep dish "auto parts" pan from Detroit. Dang good pizza and pairs well with an Electric Jellyfish...

I had Aviator once, and was not that impressed. Tony C's is usually our go-to. If I want to drive a bit, I hit up Mandola's north of Brushy Creek.

Had lunch at Via 313 a couple of times. Really good, but too much for lunch and needed a Jelly, but both visits were on a work day.

Conan's deep pan FTW. Unfortunately, not on my diet these days... Mangia was a pretty good runner-up, but they are out of business.

Best is either Grimaldi's or Homeslice. If you go to Homeslice go north, their wings are awesome. Wish Grimaldi's also did wings, but they are really good.

313 is also good. Tony C's is up there as well.

I'm a Via 313 fan but need to try Southern's as I'm out that way, Pinthouse is always good as well.

And I miss Cane Rosso.

That location they chose has been a death knell over the years for many different places. I was a big fan of the place when I was in Dallas and went to a couple of their locations up there.

DeSano's is good. Pieous is good. Pinthouse is good.

Got this recipe from Reddit and with a pretzel starter tweak and high protein flour it's top notch. I inherited one of those big blenders a few decades ago. Apologies for the amounts in grams, but that's the way it came. It's easy to convert, but the wife got a scale, so I don't have to any more. Definitely not expedited.

Dough ingredients (Baker's %):

560 grams of flour (high protein is essential)
335 grams of water (60%)
17 grams of sea salt (3%)
11 grams of sugar (2%)
11 grams of barley malt (2%) (don't substitute)
11 grams of extra virgin olive oil (2%)
3-7 gram of active dry yeast (1/2 - 1 package)

Mix warm water, barley malt, and yeast in your mixing bowl. Wait five minutes or until it's foaming.

Add everything else, mix on low 8-10 minutes, then medium another two minutes. Let rise 5 hours, then split into 2 (16") or 4 (11") and rise in the refrigerator for 48 hours.
