Name comes from Arabic. Aledo, Spain began being called that when most of the Iberian Peninsula was called Al-Andalus under Muslim rule.

So I'm assuming the progression has gone from Al-Edo to Aledo to the Texanified uh lee doe.

To be fair now that I see it, that one makes sense. Like when my wife's side of the family schooled me on their homeland of Munday, that one rolls off the tongue now too.

I'll never get Refugio correct and luckily don't know anyone from there so it's not a problem!

You must be one of the thousands of people moving to Aledo and Parker County from california. I don't see how anyone from Texas would mess up the pronunciation of Aledo.

This is the common mispronunciation.

ETA, And, although I grew up there, Gruene (pronounced "Green") is still "Grew-In" when I read it in my mind and Rueckle Road (correctly pronounced "Rick-Lee") is "Roo-kle".
