Growing/aggressive industrial manufacturing company seeking experienced engineer to serve on our senior leadership team as Director of R&D. Make energy infrastructure more resilient by helping us turn innovative ideas into thriving product lines. Location is an easy 30 minute commute from Dallas.

If you are interested or you know someone who might be, please PM me or respond and we can connect via email to discuss further and connect to our recruiters. Much more detail below.

There are two critical aspects to this role:

Our Director of R&D will help us turn innovative ideas into thriving products by leading new product projects. This usually requires technical vetting, testing, and product design which will require assembling and managing a team of external experts. To do this effectively the right candidate must possess excellent project management skills, people skills, and engineering expertise (specifically in heat transfer and fluid dynamics; experience with catalysis and/or automation will be helpful).

This person will also serve on our senior leadership team to help guide overall company strategy. The key need is to be the voice of how product innovation can advance company goals, but all senior leadership team members are expected to contribute to conversations related to all aspects of the business (sales, marketing, operations, finance, administration, and engineering).

Key roles will include:

- Project management for new product development. Our products are technical and many new products will require the help of external resources to aid in technical vetting, testing, and design refinement. The Director of R&D will be responsible for sourcing great partners and managing the technical aspects of these projects.

- Technical authority on product capabilities, limitations, and requirements. We need more than a great project manager. Our Director of R&D must have the technical knowledge and expertise to clarify and define performance criteria for new products. This includes an ability to understand requirements from customer, regulatory, and internal perspectives.

- Guide company strategy, especially with respect to new product innovation and other research. The Director of R&D will serve on the senior leadership team and help clarify the company vision and set goals that will drive the company toward the realization of its strategic objectives.

- Lead a team. Initially the team will be external and internal partners working toward development of new products. In the future it's likely the needs will expand and the Director of R&D will also manage direct reports. People leadership and management will be critical.

Nothing is more important than a good fit for our culture. From day one, we will expect:

- Orientation toward results. The ultimate success of the role is determined by the new products we can add to our offering. The nature of research is curiosity which is naturally endless, but in this role we need to drive toward answers and project completion. The idea of projects being completed on time and on budget should sound exciting, not constrictive.

- Positive, proactive mindset. We believe that as a company and individuals we are in control of our own choices and attitudes, and ultimately we get to write our own destiny. So we don't abide victims, blamers, sad sacks, or gophers. Growing a company is challenging and fun so we need you to show up ready to enjoy the ride.

- Enthusiasm for learning, growing, and challenging yourself. As a growing company everyone has to constantly be getting better. We will provide the resources for you to improve, but the idea of expectations consistently rising should sound energizing, not stressful.

We offer a full benefits package with 401k, insurance, etc.

Job is on-site. We are making significant investments in our IT infrastructure to better accommodate remote work, so there may be some room for flexibility. However, key aspects of the role involve conducting and monitoring experiments so full remote is not an option.

The office is in Terrell. If you're in Dallas, it's an easy 30-35 minute commute from Downtown Dallas, Lake Highlands, Knox/Henderson, or Lakewood -- 70 mph the whole way. Anywhere east of the Tollway would be pretty easy.
