Howdy! I'm a current student and will be in my last semester this Fall 2022 taking an internship. I'm looking for housing in the Oak Cliff area and was wondering if anybody had any options/ was looking to rent a space out for one person? Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks and Gig'em!

When I think "college student coming to town for a semester internship", Oak Cliff ain't exactly the first location that springs. to mind. As you well know.

When I interned, I chose an extended stay motel.

Coming from West Texas, I didn't have a big grasp on neighborhoods and locations in Dallas.

I found a place on I-35 - "Okay, major highway. I recognize that."

It's off mockingbird - "hey! That's the street SMU is on!"

Needless to say, my first night there was like the scene in "Big" - Tom Hanks eating the Oreo with gunshots going off.

You should have posted a question on the TexAgs Metroplex board.

So I was being a little facetious having grown up in Oak Cliff. Having said that, I would absolutely consider Oak Cliff as a place to rent if I were a college intern working somewhere around there, like Methodist Hospital.

Sure, you gotta be careful of the neighborhood, but that goes for all parts of town. There are some great parts of Oak Cliff

Which is why he asked, "Why Oak Cliff?".

Oak Cliff has some great neighborhoods, but unless there is a reason to look there it might make more sense to look at other areas of Dallas.

Lots of "expensive" new apartments in Oak Cliff, I am not sure what short term options they have available. You may be able to find a short term or sublease on one of the (much) older multifamily properties in the area south of Jefferson, though that may not be ideal. One of the things I have seen lately is people asking about garage apartments/efficiencies in the nicer neighborhoods in Dallas (Lakewood, Highland Park/University Park, M-Streets, or closer to your area in Stevens/Kessler Park). There are some to be had and they typically come with fewer restrictions on length of stay. I see these requests on NextDoor (which you probably don't have).

Oak Cliff is a great neighborhood, and as long as you don't leave anything of value in your vehicle outside overnight, you are probably fine (which is something you have to say about most of Dallas or any large metro area at this point, really).

This is great all around advice.

The garage apartments can be harder to find, but a much better alternative.

Oak Cliff is a pretty big area. Far northwest is going to be your best bet. Definitely nothing east of 35.
