Anyone else dealing with these in their trees? Saw an article in Dallas paper about it, and it basically says for the most part it's just wait out until the next freeze.

However these things have fallen down off of the trees and have setup shop in our gazebo. I assumed because no actual plant life in the gazebo that they would be short-lived in there, but every morning I'm waking up to nightmare fuel looking in there as they seem to have multiplied by the hundreds.

Anyone know the life cycle of these guys minus any actual food? I really don't want to pay to have a pest or arborist come out just to tell me "yeah, you need to wait it out", but I also don't want to wake up one morning and our house has become a bug-horror-movie from the 70s

Yes! The vast majority of hackberries in Fort Worth are covered w/ inchworms or cankerworms. They won't hurt the trees and they only last around 4-6 weeks. Just looks ugly and creates a mess.
