There was a guy looking for unlocked cars in Rockwall county a couple nights ago. Caught pretty good camera footage of him and his car but not quite great enough to make out the license plate. Filed a police report. What are the odds they catch the guy?

Close to zero. It's happening everywhere and it's extremely rare to see a happy outcome when following these types of posts.

Post video and I bet Texags will ID the make and model of the car in short order.

Post on the AB and they'll have the make/model/year ID'd in no time. Looks like a Mazda CX-5 to me, FWIW.

Didn't take a drill either that was sitting in an unlocked truck. Must've just been looking for the keys themselves, wallets, purses, etc. who knows

Yeah, I meant to reference AB when I said post pics.

My first thought was Kia because of the color, but the rear end makes me think Ford Escape. For me the color rules out Mazda. I've owned 2 Mazda's and they aren't that aggressive with their colors.

Guns, money, and other quick flip valuables.

Couple of years had a rental car (truck) get smashed along with every other truck in the parking lot of the hotel.

They took only flippable things. Ladder likely would have made good noise and not fit in the orange mazda but would have been flippable.

One of the guys was a former SEAL and had left a rifle scope under the seat. It had been pulled from under seat but not stolen. Would have been the most valuable part of the haul.

I don't understand how there are still people leaving valuables in unlocked vehicles. Morons.

In my hood, we've had two people get mugged in their driveways after coming home from the grocery store. Betting it's the same guy.

I don't even leave a penny or cheap sunglasses. ALWAYS lock the door. Hell, we always locked it even in the garage growing up.

Living on 1.5 acres as a youth situated on a dead end street between two trailer parks you learn to not tempt anyone.

It's just kind of mind blowing that anyone living in an urban area would do this yet we still see stuff in our neighborhood crime report where people just leave their car unlocked in the driveway with stuff in it. And we are in Dallas proper.

Get your ass beat with a leather belt for leaving the garage door up past dusk a few times and you learn.

I've accidentally left the garage door open overnight like 3 times this year here in Fort Worth. And there's sketchy apartments a few blocks away. I should beat my own ass.

Years ago we were working in the backyard at our newly purchased first home and left the garage door open cuz we were just steps away albeit behind a wood fence. Well, a thief was cruising the alley and decided to grab my tool box. Our next door neighbor stopped him and got the license plate. Long story short it turned into a multi-city fencing investigation with stakeouts and numerous arrests. The dude was on probation and selling stolen equipment to one of our neighbors! We pressed charges and he was awarded an extended stay in jail.

Now we have a Liftmaster GDO and use the MyQ app. It sends a notification if the GDO is open for more than the specified amount of time, can open and close the door remotely, etc.

I have the same thing for garage. It's the one piece of home automation I'm a big believer in simply because sometimes your garage door doesn't shut or it will fake you out and pop back up after you've already walked inside.

I have been implementing more automation with garage doors and exterior doors. It can be a pain to remember to override, but I have been defaulting to just lock / close anything left open more than 30 minutes.
