We have friends who had 20+ years of volunteering who quit because they did not feel appreciated anymore.
Watch the rodeo on tv. It used to be standing room only. Lots of empty seats now.
Rodeo at Will Rogers would be standing room only one or two Saturdays out of the run.
Don't get me wrong, the way the club level seating is done (mostly on a season basis) does leave the attendance often times looking sparse, but Dickies also holds 4k+ more than Will Rogers did. If I'm not mistaken, it's also a much higher purse and caliber of competition.
FWSSR is drawing more people through the gate every year than ever before even if it doesn't look like it on TV. My take on it is while I dislike it it losing the more "hometowny" feel (can we just pipe in the horse barn smell?), the trade-off of having a facility the caliber of Dickies has been well worth it. George Strait, The Eagles, Pearl Jam... all down the street in an easy in-and-out facility? It's been one of the best things to happen to Fort Worth in decades.
