Yesterday, I was at a track meet near Cleburne, and on they way back towards Dallas on Hwy 67, on the right hand side, just outside of Midlothian, there was a parking lot with what looked like to be 100s of trucks. Please forgive my ignorance, but what is that? I didn't see any signs or businesses nearby that would give me a hint. TIA

That's an offsite parking lot for Ford inventory, if I recall correctly.

There are a lot of auto storage yards in Midlo. I have a friend who works out there finishing Subarus that come in from Japan.

Seriously, look at the cars.

Midlothian received FTZ (foreign trade zone) designation sometime in the 80's making it something of an inland port. Foreign manufacturers can bring their products there by rail and unload them, then do finishing and customization work without paying duties, then ship them to their final destinations when duties are collected. At least that's my understanding of it.

The older I get, the more amazed I become at the amount of industry that takes place on this planet. Humans are pretty impressive.

And the older I get, the more I am amazed, amazed - not surprised, at the amount of knowledge that is on TexAgs. That's so often why I come here - even for goofy questions like, "Why are there so many trucks parked over there?"

A cargo ship looses power and hits a bridge in the middle of the night? Wait a little while and a cargo ship captain chimes in and explains the situation.
Rumblings from the military base in Greenland? Hold on, here comes somebody who is a part of the US Space Force. He's worked there. He can tell you what's really going on.
The power of the Aggie Network.

Thanks, TexAgs.

Not only that, but breaking news usually shows up on TexAgs 15-30 min before the mainstream media.

God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

My dad had a second gig driving cars for them out there in the 90s. They were crazy about getting cars within an inch of each other and dad wasn't exactly "detail oriented" so he lasted about a week

I used to work at Dr Pepper, and I found about the purchase of the Imperial Sugar acquisition from the Dublin plant off Texags. The next morning, the upper management broke it to the team. As they say, Texags knows stuff.

If I were a bird, that parking lot area would be my dartboard.

Uh-oh. Always wondered about having that much of a concentration of vehicles in one spot, especially in N Texas…
