Posting this here hoping to see if any info becomes available. And trying not to make it a political post (there's a thread on F16 about that).

I'm sure most here have heard about the controversy around Midland ISD changing the name of Legacy HS back to the original Lee Rebels (it was changed to Legacy back in 2021).

They travel to Allen to open the season. I have seen some things on social media about groups planning to protest at the game. Do you think this would be a thing in Allen, Texas? I'm really not familiar with the community so I don't know.

I do know about an incident involving their quarterback last season (or maybe 2 seasons ago), where racial slurs were spray painted on the kid's house. A lot of people seemed to think it was a hoax, set up by his own family so the kid could transfer to a Frisco school without sitting out a year. Other than that I have no idea about racial issues in Allen.

We were planning on going to the game but I'd sure like to avoid any nonsense. I realize a lot of people talk crap on social media, but on the other hand nothing would surprise me these days.

Its a major metro area. 100% there will be a bunch of idiots that drive out there to protest from all over if it gains traction. Allen HS football games have turned into a bit of a mess in general with the fights and stuff from what I've heard from a friend who's kids go there

I doubt anything big happens, 99.9% of DFW doesn't GAF about what is going on in Midland regardless of what the issue is. Up until yesterday I didn't realize that they had changed their name in the first place.

Probably another story if it was Highland Park, Carroll, Aledo, the Frisco schools, etc.

I completely forgot about this and had to look up what happened with that kid. He's the backup at OU now.

And I don't think anything would happen at Allen. If it was a Denton school? Maybe. But don't see it with Allen.

What's this you say? I was unaware. What's the story?

I live in Allen. There was one fight last year, and I don't think it was that big a deal. Nothing to worry about.

I live in Allen as well, and heard of one fight. I wouldn't let that or the threat of protest stop you, but Allen football games are kind of a circus in their own right.

I doubt anything will happen. I volunteer with the Allen Band so can report if anything major happens. I refuse to call them Legacy anyway. Spent many a summers in Odessa with family so they will forever be Lee.

I suspect the only violence we'll see is Allen rubbing Midland LEEgacy's faces in the turf. Probably gonna be ugly.

Yah this isn't the Lee program of the 90s, Carroll plays one of the 6A Permian Basin schools each year (next month we travel to play Midland HS) and the games are usually blowouts by halftime.

It was fun for Allen.

The name change was supposed to be in the future, but Midland already had 'Lee' back on their helmets.

No, I didnt see anything. But AHS did try for a Guinness World Record for loudest scream. So that's something.
