Currently have Progressive. Tried to get quotes from USAA, AAA, Liberty Mutual and Geico. All were either much higher or flat out didn't offer. Any help.

Best for price or best in general? I have only had to make claims with USAA and state farm and the claim process with state farm was much better.

Which one is cheapest? Never had a claim, but my **** has gone up from $2300 to $9500 since 2021. It's effing insane.

Good luck, its ridiculous these days. No one is writing new policies with a 1% wind/hail deductible anymore, and might be lucky if you can get 2%.

Statefarm was the lowest I believe the last time I tried, but we have had allstate and they haven't gotten rid of 1% deductibles for current policy holders.

I honestly would take a 5% wind/hail and keep the same premium. My premium is going from $3800 to $5900 with 2% wind/hail.

I use Liere to shop and they just moved us to Farmers. Only a 9% increase from last year. Yay.

Get a quote from Kin Insurance.

We went to 5% last year for roughly $3,300 compared to Lieres 2% at $6k+

The best is different for everyone and is subjective too. If best is price, there are too man inputs to determine what your price may be versus someone on this board or even your neighbor. coverages, endorsements, riders, coverage amounts all drive this and you can't even compare to your neighbors without going line by line.

find an independent broker to quote you some and also shop the big guys with their online quote tools.

I have state farm. I am now on year 3 with them because they have let me keep my 1% wind/hail deductible, their dwelling estimator is much more reasonable and coupled with the savings on auto with them the total package is cheapest than what anyone else can offer.

USAA - required 2% their dwelling coverage was 220k more than state farm. premium was "cheaper" on home but 5% and 220k on the dwelling made the difference not worth my while. and their auto was not even close.

Homesite/progressive - wanted 2% deductible and $7,200 premium on 100k higher dwelling

GEICO -cheapest dwelling - 100k under state farm - 2% deductible $8600 premium

there was a bunch of others i quoted - some random company i never heard of wanted $12,000.

Used Foremost insurance on cars and house in Prosper via insurance agent. Wind/hail is 2% and all other perils at 1%. Dwelling is set to $30k below price of home.

Dropped my bill from $10,000 to $5,500 on a $825k house, so I'll take it.

I recently shopped home and auto with Allstate and StateFarm.

For home Allstate was similar price as Safeco but with a 2% deductible instead of the 1% u currently have. I was pretty surprised when StarFarm came back with a deductible that was half the price with a 1% deductible.

StateFarm was also half the price on auto.

I had a broker shop all of this last year when homeowners went thru the roof. I'm in Prosper and my renewal with Safeco would have been around $10,500.

What are y'all factoring in for build back costs per / sf in determining appropriate dwelling coverage? $150 / $175 / $200?

After deducting the lot my house would be roughly $250 sq/ft. Not including demolition and clean out.

  • stay away from usaa

I had Safeco for years... one claim for a new roof about 8 years ago (needed because shingles were falling off the roof)... the Safeco premium went up $$$$s in the last couple years.

I ended up switching to State Farm (bundled w/ existing State Farm auto insurance)... yearly premium reduced $1,600.

It's going to vary wildly based upon the quality of your home, but i would say $175 is probably near the floor for builder grade in N. Texas. I run RCVs regularly for insurance purposes and use the Verisk 360 program. For my own home, a Highland built fairly standard suburban house, but with some nice features and using the "Above Average" quality grade, it came out to $263/sf which is including a 2.5 car garage.
