May Relocate… DFW Job Market?

Howdy. I posted something similar on the jobs board but since we're looking closely at Fort Worth I'm coming here as well.

My wife and I are getting more serious about a move home to Texas after almost 4 years as Texpats in Virginia. We had a chance to move back a year ago but the timing just didn't line up for both of our careers so we stayed put. I think we've decided that raising our family in God's country close to family is more important than the perfect career move.

My wife may have an opportunity with her company in Fort Worth, but I'll be on the lookout for something new. I spent the early years of my career in O&G in technical sales and business development, ultimately leading my company's US sales and marketing team before pursuing an MBA and leaving the industry for a new career in the DC area. Without going into too much detail, I'm now leading an in-house consulting team in a government agency. I've had the opportunity to work a variety of projects in cyber, aviation, drone/counter drone, and have never really stopped considering myself a business developer and leader. I get to kill inefficiency, raise money, sell new ideas. redesign organizations, and negotiate with tough cookies every day. I've loved it but this role doesn't exist outside of DC. I also hold TS/SCI clearance.

As I dip my toe in, how does the job market feel in DFW for BD, sales, or consulting type roles? At this point I'm just trying to get a sense of what the opportunity flow is like back home from those of you lucky enough to still live there!

Since you have an active TS/SCI, I would highly encourage engaging with Lockheed, Elbit Systems, Bell, L3Harris, RTX, and maybe even some of the smaller outfits around down. ShieldAI, Crescent Systems, Innovative Signal Analysis. I'm sure those companies could find good use for your skillset.

I have nothing to add other than if you are going to move to any state and try to find a job, then Texas is probably your best bet for your background - O&G and defense.

OP,

You may also try with someone like MP Materials.

They are working on Rare Earth Mineral Production, have a government contract and could likely use your skills in a similar manner? They have their production operation in Fort Worth if I remember correctly.

Feedback I've been getting from clients is that D/FW job market is as healthy as anywhere right now. Some really tough metro areas, but our area still seems to be holding strong. Also lots of Ags in the area, so the Aggie Network could be your friend!

I was in a similar position a couple years ago (Texpat in the DMV, also with a clearance) and Lockheed was a natural fit. Once I left DC, I found the clearance helped separate from me other applicants. The hiring process is slow, but worth it IMO, especially if you're not looking to move ASAP.

In Richardson there is a Boeing defense site and a small contractor called Innovative Signal Analysis (ISA) that both have TS work (SCI and SAP)

I would caution that they fancy themselves a startup and have 0 work/life balance.
