March 5-15 is when you need to get down a pre emergent weed killer. This is the weed killer for grassy weeds, like crabgrass and dallis grass. Wait until later and you might was well save money and skip it - the grassy weeds will already be germinated.

Don't use a weed and feed. The fertilizer will just wash away since the grass won't use it yet. Never do fertilizer until your yard is actively growing. For my St. A, that'll be around April 15 - May 1.

If you have leafy weeds, like henbit and dandelions, use a 2-4,D locally on them. They're easy to see right now since your yard is still dormant.

I backed mine up to March 1. Sperry always says better to be a week early than a day late & I'm tired of Poa Annua laughing at my pre emergent.

I put down hi yield w / dimension last week & watered it into my lawn. I feel like I'm always guessing on this bull**** but hoping I did well.

I have St Aug as well - what exactly do you plan to put down?

I just use the Lesco pre-emergent from Home Depot. Put it down two weeks ago because it's unseasonably warm this spring. Will do fertilizer later.

Put down Halts yesterday ahead of this week's rain event.

My Bermuda is already starting to green up in spots here in Aledo.

In DFW pre-emergs need to start going down in late Jan and early Feb. Waiting until March is too late. This year, with the ice storm, you could afford to (kinda had to) wait -- we got lucky. But I've put it down in early March before and it didn't do much, if anything. If you haven't done it yet, you can try, but I'm afraid you'll have to wait until fall. Hopefully, I'm wrong and the ice storm bought us some time. Whatever you do, don't wait. Saturday this week at the latest.

I agree with W&F being useless. I'm using Barricade 4FL. You can get it on Amazon. Going to put down some 2,4 D and, I think, Metsofuron (sp??) this weekend or early next week. Just got a 4 gallon battery sprayer and want to use it!

I do Halts in early March, early May, and early September with very good results.

I completely missed the boat on pre-emergent, so will have to go directly into "feed" mode. Does anyone have any firsthand experience with Texas Tee, particularly with St. Augustine?

I asked a the grass guy at Ace Hardware about 8 years ago about what to put down for my St Augustine and he said the Texas Tee, Corn Gluten granular, and Dried Molasses. I've done it ever since in the spring and my yard has turned out nicely. Don't know if it's helped, but certainly hasn't hurt.

Better late than never. Weeds don't just suddenly all germinate at one time and then they're done. If you haven't done a pre-emergent yet, it's still a good idea to go ahead and do it, even if it is a little late. Dimension (Dithopyr) has some early post emergent activity on crabgrass. So even if crabgrass has germinated, you might've able to knock it out with a dimension app. I also don't think goose grass has germinated yet either, so you can still get ahead of that with a pre-emergent within the next week or two.
