What is a good steakhouse in the 10/99 area?

Buddy of mine is driving through toen, going to meet him for dinner in that vicinity. Last time we hit up Federal American Grill, want a different place this time.

Pearl and Vine another good option, though a bit pricey for Katy standards.

It's Katy. Just go to Outback, get a steak, a blooming onion and a big ass draft beer while letting your kids go running around roughshod through the dining area.

Never been to Federal American, but with all sincerity I say "your backyard." Get some quality ribeyes from Katy Meat Masters and grill at home. Should be better and cheaper than any Katy steak place.

Otherwise, have fun at Texas Roadhouse.

Ha… Texas Tradition, while decent country cooking, is more of a dive. A charming dive, but a dive.

Pearl and Vine and Perry's are more "steakhouse" than anything else over there.

At 10/99 area we really like Gloria's. It's more upscale Latin than steakhouse…and while it's got some normal Mexican food type things, but it's not full blown Mexican restaurant. It's a decent vibe. The Carne Asada is really good.

Just drive 15-20 minutes east for Capital Grille, Eddie V's, Fleming's, Taste of Texas, or Jonathan's The Rub. It'd be worth the time and gas over anything in Katy.

Just don't get anything that they have to go to the freezer in the back to get. I got 2 slabs of Dino ribs last weekend. The one from the counter was perfect….the one from the freezer was rotten. After I thawed it, it was obviously not vacuum sealed right. Meat was grey and smelled awful.

We have started ordering steaks and more from 44 Farms. Excellent quality delivered to my front door 2 days after the order is placed. Pricey but their prime steaks are just that and excellently packaged.

Any Katy folks been to Astor's Table? Curious if its any good…

Pearl and Vine is way overpriced for the food quality. Perry's steaks suck. Federal isn't bad but not great either for steak. Honestly don't have that many good steak places out here… Brett's BBQ does do steak nights behind Katy Mills. That might be worth checking out but I have never had one there.

I agree with either going to Town and Country and going to Taste of Texas or Flemings (i would prefer the former). Otherwise I would say go to River Oaks and go to my favorite places in the city, Georgia James.

I have been once. It was some good eating, but not a place the wife would want to go to often due to what it cost.

Interesting. Never been to Pearl and Vine but have a few friends in the suburb and they all gush over it. They've been wanting us to venture out to try it.

It is not a bad place to eat, you're just spending 1.5X what you should be, in my opinion.

Not quite Katy. But, I went to Taste of Texas at Christmas. Had not been there in over a decade. I have to say for all of the crap we including myself have given it over the years, they do a great job. I have been to a bunch of high end awesome places. The ribeye I had at ToT was perfectly cooked. The sides were awesome and the service was top notch.

I've decided I'm no longer crapping on ToT.

I disagree. I think they are very much in line price wise for the quality of food and service. Compared to Perry's in katy P&V blow it out of the water imo.

P&V also has the best prices I've found on raw oysters anywhere around. Campechana also stacks up well against Goode Co. I know a lot of people compare P&V to Anthonies and imo P&V has much better food at a much better price. Last few times I've been to Anthonies I thought the quality has dropped from what it was several years ago, while the prices have steadily rose up.

Yeah I haven't been to Anthony's in a while but was never truly in love with it either.

Regarding Pearl & Vine, the conversation was on Katy Steak places. Their steaks and the overall meal is overpriced, in my opinion. Sure maybe their oysters are priced well but we're talking about steaks.

As I mentioned earlier, I don't know that there is really a "great" steak option in Katy. P&V is on the list of places I would send people but I am just not that big of a fan. Every time I go there with the wife my bill seems like it is about 150% of what it should be and I'm not really a cheap person either.

I'm also not choosing to go to Perry's if I want steak.

Just browsing the menu online, the prices seem pretty in line with Pappas Bro's. Don't see our go to Porterhouse at P&V but my second choice is generally the NY Strip. P&V is about 10% more than Pappas.

Also, P&V doesn't state if their steaks are dry aged so I assume they aren't. If they are, the prices seem reasonable. If they aren't, the steaks, at least, are overpriced.

fair enough

In terms of Katy restaurants though I lean in the opinion that's it's probably the best place to get a steak and have a great meal.

In the greater houston area, I do agree for the price though you're better off going to Pappas if steak is what you want.

I've never been on the crap on ToT bandwagon. I'm not sure what drives that opinion unless it's something to do with a perception that ToT is not as "elite" as a Ruth's Chris or Anthony's, etc. ToT is often where my wife and I have our anniversary meal, and occasionally we go at Christmas as well. My office is literally within walking distance, but while I haven't gone for lunch I did stop in a couple of years ago and bought gift cards when they do their buy $100 get $25 extra deal.

We went to Taste of Texas in late November and it was pretty good.

But I'm not as picky as a lot of you guys.

Another option if you head east into town is Brenner's near Wilcrest and i10. It's not quite Pappas Bros quality but better than Perry's and you don't have to deal with the cluster of trying to get in and out of City Centre

It's not as bad now, not because the crowds aren't there but because they've added an ingress/egress point along the feeder road right outside the garage right across from Perry's.

Solid option. We went there for Christmas last year and had a really good meal. Had an excellent piece of fish in addition to great steaks.

Did anyone happen to notice that the OP is Schmelba, and he's asking for a place to meet an old buddy passing thru Katy - as opposed to an out of towner foodie asking for a rating system of Greater Houston steakhouses?

You're thinking of La Centerra, not City Center.

I agree getting in and our of La Centerra is much easier since they've added feeder access. Getting in and out is much easier if you approach from the sides rather than go in off of Cinco Ranch Blvd.

Well

I mean, I even bolded it. I live a mile from La Centerra and my office is in City Centre, and yes, that place is a cluster. One would think my eyes and brain would work.
