I've been looking for a doctor who would treat me like his own family. My search may be over.

Dr. Nathan Robert Starke, who practiced in the Texas Medical Center, tested positive for cocaine, according to the Texas Medical Board, back in October 2024.

This was after the board says Starke was working as a Houston Methodist Hospital Urologist when they say in August and in September 2024, he participated in several surgeries while appearing impaired.

In August 2024, the state medical board says the Baylor College of Medicine med school graduate performed a surgical biopsy on a patient's prostate and showed signs of impairment.


In September 2024, Houston Methodist suspended Dr. Starke after he "was absent for all but the last three minutes of a surgery for which he was the attending physician," and a state board document says Starke tested positive for cocaine and Kratom in October 2024.

The state has now temporarily suspended Starke's medical license, stating his "continued practice of medicine poses a continuing threat to public welfare."

Before Starke had his medical license suspended, he was arrested last year and charged with assaulting his girlfriend, allegedly shoving her to the ground and chipping her tooth.

The doctor was also arrested in 2017 and 2007 for driving while intoxicated.

I've had an appointment with him before and he seemed like a great doctor. I tried to make a new one a couple of weeks ago and was told he's on a leave of absence. I can't imagine him giving prostate exams while having the shakes from a booger sugar withdrawal.

I went to elementary school and middle school with Nathan at Annunciation Orthodox School in Montrose. He was probably the smartest person I've ever met. We were friends when we were kids, I saw Cool Runnings in the movie theater with him, not sure why that memory sticks out. We lost touch a bit when he went to St. John's and I went to Lamar for high school. I have seen him here and there over the last few years, most recently at a friend's brother's funeral last May. He seemed very off. Last year, he was arrested for beating his now ex-wife. I am not surprised about this news. So much intelligence thrown away by terrible decisions.

Both of his parents, his brother and his sister are doctors too. His mom is a prominent doctor at Texas Children's, Dr. Joan Shook. What a waste, and what an embarrassment for Nathan and his family.

Can we give the guy a pass for the drugs? If I had to play with peepees and poopoos all day I'd be on drugs too.

Did he invent a cure for a malady effecting millions upon millions of cubicle jockies and/or masturbation aficionados?

NO!

Did he have a gorgeous wife who spat out a few shawties before hooking up with a HOF baseball player?

NO!

Does he have a strangely loyal following on the Tine board of Texags?

NO! NO! NO!
