I have to admit it lasted a lot longer than I thought it would.

Noticed they weren't open on Sunday and they were cleaning it out this evening. The Google also says permanently closed. Why put a pricier chicken restaurant across the street from a Popeye's?

That area could use a decent coffee shop but it will probably revert to a smoke shop.

I got an email that they closed on Monday. Enjoyed both my meals from there, both using deals that made the price competitive with Popeyes.

If you're going to open a restaurant that only has 3 or 4 options it better be priced competitively or super special delicious or both.

Yep, opening a fried chicken spot right across the street from Popeye's is a bold move. It better be extraordinarily good and at the right price point.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but there has to be a ton of coffee shops with a half mile of that spot.

You would think, but I challenge you to name one (Starbucks inside Kroger doesn't count).

Meanwhile on the other end of 11th (@studewood), you've got Starbucks, Jo's and Antidote all in a half mile line of each other.

Weren't they aiming for a bit higher of a food experience with their chicken sandwich than Popeye's? I don't think they had any intent of being the cheapest food available.

Just Katz they brew on site, right? I mean it is good, but nothing to get overly excited about.

I think Popeyes should open up a nice clean Popeyes run by competent people in the old Daddy's and see which one outproduces the other.

I could be wrong but I think Popeyes is sitting on a gold mine if they'd pump a little money into their stores.

2025 and people debating chicken joint real estate. There was a time when it was all about worshipping an alcoholic who had funny stripper stories.

What has happened to us?!

It all started with the College Station "Chicken Strip" when Cane's, Layne's, and Fowl Digits were all next to each other.

The Chicken Strip on Ella Blvd is on Line 2. Popeye's, KFC, Raising Cane's, and Layne's are all literally next door to each other.

They'd have to pump a few 55 gallon drums of Simple Green into the stores as step 1 to start the degreasing process.

I like Popeyes, but it's a drive through only type of place for me for a host of reasons.

That's why I'm saying start with a new clean one just to see if it would make a difference on profitability.

The existing one across the street needs napalm to clean it up.

Yeah. One side of the street is completely inaccessible, depending on which direction you're driving.

I hear you...they all pretty competitively priced though right? No fancy $15 chicken sammiches.

It's awful. To get to Halal Guys the other day, going south, I had to meander through the neighborhood and come in the back way. I have always HATED that stretch of Ella and used to avoid it at all costs when we lived there. And it's only gotten worse.

Layne's runs about $13+tax for a 5 tender meal. Sandwiches are like $10 I think.

Doesn't help that northbound is always jammed up due to the line at Shipley donuts.

They need to completely revamp that area. Less gaps in the median and dedicated turn lanes everywhere they do have gaps.
