Got a ticket for, of all things, parking in front of a fire hydrant in downtown. I've never gotten a parking ticket before. Do I really have to pay this or can I just let it be assuming I don't get more tickets and end up owing the city more money?

I had to bail a friend out of jail for unpaid CoH parking tickets after he found out he had a warrant during a traffic stop. He got to spend a night in lock up. It sounded like a nightmare.CDUB98 said:
I cannot believe this is a serious question.
Yes, you have to pay it. Do the crime, do the time. You don't pay it, you'll end up with an arrest warrant a couple of years from now. The city is that petty.

Really? You think you could park in front of a fire hydrant? So you kick puppies and steal lollipops from babies?
Or they'll boot your car.CDUB98 said:

Had a buddy who thought he didn't need to pay his parking tickets. That was until we came out of a Stros game to a boot on his truck.
I don't think they arrest you for the tickets, they arrest you for failure to appearSea Speed said:
Do they really issue an arrest warrant for a parking ticket? In Galveston they pawn it off to some third rate law firm that threatens you with all kinds of stuff but nothing ever happens. I got a parking ticket back in 2009 or so and never paid it and nothing has ever happened besides those ridiculous letters from the third rate law firm.

Paying Your Fine
If the payment is not made in full by the Court date, you MUST appear on your scheduled date. Failure to appear or failure to pay may result in:
[ol]A warrant issued for your arrest and Denial of the renewal of your driver's license and additional costs of $10 per case, or Denial of the registration or re-registration of any motor vehicle. [/ol]...
Your failure/refusal to pay your fine could result in:

I don't know about now, but I know for sure about 25 years ago they did.Quote:

What makes people think they can park wherever they want, get a ticket, and just ignore it.
Is it petty and frustrating? Yeah...But be a damn adult and A) don't park where you're not supposed to and B) if you do then pay the fine.
not sure how they could as it's a civil matter not criminal but in a city where murders, assaults, property theft go unsolved, criminal l cases get dismissed without ever investigating for a "lack of evidence" Ill take my chances on one unpaid parking ticket.Sea Speed said:
Yea I knew they don't get you for the ticket but the failure, but I didn't think they even gave you a court date on them, just a fine. Imagine getting thrown in the clink for a parking ticket.
