But wth?!! I have an Academy gift card and thought, I'm gonna go spend this on a new A&M shirt or polo to wear for the game this Friday. So I went to the Academy on 290 and 34th St. and they literally had ZERO A&M gear! Just a bunch of UH, Texans, and Astros gear. And tbh, not very much t.u. gear either.

So I decided to go today to the Academy on 59 between Shepard and Kirby… AND IT WAS THE SAME THING! A whole bunch of the same gear mentioned above, plus a bunch of TSU… I was very surprised.

Any one know what is up with that?? I didn't go in expecting Academy to have a HUGE A&M selection, but I've been before and have seen at least SOME options. Especially now with how our season is going, I figured they'd be stocked up a bit. Anyone else notice the same thing at other Academy's?

See if you can use the gift card online.

I've thought that their team selections in general have been smaller in recent years, even when looking for Astros stuff.

The one at 290 and 1960 used to have a bunch of Aggie gear. Moving to Bastrop sucked after getting used to that, because it is damn near all orange in the store here.

Academy sucks , Dicks in Meyerland had a ton of Aggie gear

The one in Katy has a bunch

This, a month or two ago it was everywhere at our two locations (Cypress).Tens of thousands of people have been buying A&M gear over the last month or so.

9-0 wasn't enough for the large BAS contingent...10-0 and 11-0 sent people shopping.

That being said, I would be pretty surprised if you still couldn't find some decent gear in-store at the two Cypress locations. Doesn't surprise me at all that the 290/34th location doesn't have much. That store sucks. Last time I shopped there a group of disgusting tweakers were rolling out of the store with a cart full of expensive items...dumped em into the bed of a Chevy curb side and sped off.

They are public now, since 2020. It's definitely been different since KKR originally bought them though.

Academy has gotten really bad at some things but also pretty good at others.

Their actual sporting goods (golf, tennis, baseball, etc) is crap.

Their outdoor stuff (hunting, fishing, cooking) and apparel is pretty spot on.

Kind of the opposite of Dick's so now if I need sporting goods it's Dick's but if I need hunting or fishing gear it's Academy.

Their private label stuff used to be so great and I think it has really slipped.

If you don't think Academy is good move to a state that doesn't have it.

The 290/34th location doesn't carry any College merch except UofH. Any t.u. stuff you saw was returned merch.

Each store is allowed to stock the team gear they think will sell. The purchaser for that location doesn't think college stuff sells. It's a dumb decision, but it is what it is.

The Bunker Hill location has lots of A&M gear, or at least did during the season. I haven't been there in a few weeks.

You know you could have saved yourself this hassle by looking at their stock online.

This...for me, it was always a quick stop for golf balls or something when I lived in Oak Forest. I would routinely make the drive to Bunker Hill for apparel etc.

Used to feel that way then got Scheels. Then went back into Academy when I was in NC this summer and was depressed. Although I will say, what I went to Academy for (cheap low usage fishing sandals), it hit the spot.

I've been to Scheel's in Colorado Springs a few times the last couple of years but was previously unaware it existed. If that store is their standard, then Scheel's is definitely a few tiers above Academy, and I like Academy.

We have Scheels where I live but I'll take Academy every day. It has everything you need and you can get in and out. If I get the urge to ride a ferris wheel or get a muffin in the fishing department Scheels would be the choice.
