I am looking for any backyard remodel recommendations specifically in the heights/Washington area. We have a small backyard for our townhome, but the grass is mainly dead from being too shaded and weeds are starting to take over. For Christmas, I promised the wife that I would get some quotes from a few different folks to look at getting turf (and possibly new pavers) installed for the area.

It is probably only around 150 SF of space that would need turf installed, so not as much worried about the prices as the quality of the installation. Was hoping to find an Aggie owned landscaping company before going through the yelp suggestions. Appreciate any recommendations you guys have!

I used Set Roots for some French drain and yard work. They weren't cheap, but they did good, fast work.

I bought a house in the Heights with turf installed when I bought it. There's advantages to turf for sure, but I'm likely getting rid of mine this summer and doing something else. If you've got no shade in your space already, just know that turf gets hot as hell and tends to radiate extra heat during the summer.

Whoops, mistyped I suppose. It's pretty much only shaded and the grass is dead.

The best backyard remodel is in my backyard.

I did this in my front yard in the Heights. Have two dogs and had mondo grass which couldn't handle their even limited activity.

Have quite a bit of shade so growing grass is a challenge up front even with no traffic. .

Decided to go with artificial and couldn't be happier. Looks great and the dogs can go out on it in any weather and not track in mud or dirt.

I used SynLawn because they had the most realistic looking fake grass. Since it was the front yard I wanted it to look as real as possible.

I also talked to https://numberoneturf.com and they were great. Better pricing but didn't have the turf I wanted.

I'm also positive they're Aggie owned. The father does all the estimates and son runs the ops from what I remember. It's been a bit but I remember the guy who came out to do the estimate saying he's an Aggie.

Apples to apples on turf, I would have gone with Number One Turf.

I'm really happy with SynLawn and don't regret paying the extra to get a little more natural looking grass.

Interesting - we have turf that I like but it's pretty beaten down after 5+ years now. How long have you had yours? Also, it looks like SynLawn may be a franchise. Do you know if they sell their product alone for others to install? Asking because I may want to have some artifical turf installed where they don't have a location.

Used Wakasa's pet turf in 2016 and still looks wonderful and has held up great. Looks as good as it did the first year and I have dogs that run on it every day. They did a great job for my townhome in the Heights…. Have a huge oak tree that shades 80% of the yard, so same situation. They have some wash stuff to spray and rinse if you have dogs and a special install design for pets so the yard drains well.

Approaching two years on mine and still really like it.

SynLawn is a franchise and the location that did ours is in Cypress.

You can definitely buy just the material and install yourself. I was trying to buy remnants and install myself.

I couldn't get the right remnant sizes so decided to just let them install it for $3K I think. Best decision I ever made. Wound up taking three guys two and a half days to install.

It would have taken me at least a week and likely not looked as good as these guys.

If I remember correctly, the SynLawn fibers are longer which is what helps it look more natural. They put that rubber or whatever in it to give it density. You can add more rubber and fluff it up over time. Just need a good fluffer.

Our neighbor followed suit with non SynLawn and just glancing you can't tell much difference. However, if you look closer the SynLawn does look a little more natural.

If it's worth the money all depends on personal preference.

Luckily, I'm still at a point where everything is working great and I don't need a fluffer.

However, when I get to that point and find a good one, I'll holla at ya!
