An employee at a local grain elevator was killed in an auger the other day.

From what I have been told by others in town, they were having trouble with the auger and had the safety shields off. The victim was in the auger working on it without anyone knowing he was there. The word is he wasn't told to climb into it and fix it -- he did it on his own initiative.

Maybe he wasn't familiar with safety procedures like locking out switches or maybe he just ignored them. I haven't heard anything either way on this.

The word is that it pulled him up about 15 feet into the auger before they got it stopped. The results reportedly didn't resemble a human at all and took some number of bags (at least 3) to contain his remains.

I don't know how reliable this all is. I heard details from different people. There's an article in the local paper, but it doesn't go into any detail at all.
