Just thought I would let yall know that the Texas Archeological Society is hosting their annual Field School in Perryton this summer.
Field School is open to everyone, but you do have to be a member of TAS in order to attend. It is a week long archeological excavation open to all ranges of skill. You don't need any prior archeological experience, just a good work ethic and a tolerance of dirt. There will be tons of people there willing to help you (and put you to work).
This will be a great site for everyone, regardless of specific history interests. There is something for everyone.
A bit of whats there:
Prehistoric Indian sites
Historic Cavalry site
Historic Indian site
Everyone involved is very excited about the potential here. Its gonna be a great week!
I've been involved with TAS since I was a wee lass. There is a children's group open to ages 7/8 - 12/13 (I can't remember the exact age range). It is a great time for kids to play in the dirt and get priceless hands on learning...(shoot, the same goes for adults too!).
If you have any questions, check out the site (ha! pun wasn't intended) at: http://www.txarch.org/Activities/fschool/fs2008/index.html
You can find the registration form at: http://www.txarch.org/forms/fieldschool/TASFS.php
PS - If you look closely at some of the pics on that site, you may stumble across a much, much younger SuzyQ06!
